We had the good fortune of connecting with Deepa Joshi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deepa, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Every business or initiative is a reflection of one’s passion and personal interest. For me, it began with my love for simple, elegant sarees—each with its own unique language of expression. I host a podcast called ‘The Raaga Room,’ where I engage in heartfelt conversations with artists from the Indian classical music world. For each episode, I chose to wear tussar silk sarees that are representation of grace and tradition.

Interestingly, many viewers of the show liked the sarees I wore and expressed interest in owning something similar. This inspired me to travel to India, connect directly with skilled weavers, and launch ‘Threads of Sarwaa.’ Through this venture, I aim to celebrate the artistry of sarees from various parts of India and share their timeless beauty with the world.

Beyond being a business, ‘Threads of Sarwaa’ is also a platform to shine a light on extraordinary women—those who go above and beyond their daily routine to create something meaningful and valuable for the world. It’s a celebration of their spirit, creativity, and determination.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a proud employee of RouteOne, an IT company that truly values and fosters work-life balance. The onset of COVID brought unexpected challenges but also presented a unique opportunity to look inward. With the time saved from commuting, I was able to tap into my creative side and channel my energy into meaningful pursuits. This period became an inviting creative space for me to launch my podcast, a saree label, and further brought me to the path of wellness through sound healing.

I firmly believe that we all possess the ability to explore and nurture what truly resonates with us. Life is far too beautiful to let meaningful moments slip by without savoring and embracing these fulfilling experiences. With thoughtful planning and a bit of time management, it’s remarkable how much can be achieved. As the great management guru Peter Drucker said, ‘What gets measured gets managed.’ When we take the time to plan and prioritize our passions, we discover the boundless potential within ourselves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It is said that it takes a village to raise a child, and I truly believe it takes a tribe to shape who we are. None of us can thrive without the love, encouragement, and unwavering support of those around us. I owe my growth and evolution each day to my incredible tribe.

To my mother, who instilled in us the priceless value of knowledge and education. To my family, who are my constant pillars of strength. And to my dear friends, who believe in me more than I believe in myself, for which I am forever grateful. This is a journey that’s woven from the threads of love, support and nourishment.

Progress in any endeavor requires conscious effort. Openness to absorbing knowledge from diverse systems, fostering meaningful associations with enlightened individuals, aligning with the rhythms of nature, and engaging in self-reflection have been valuable tools in my journey.
