We had the good fortune of connecting with Desirae Woltz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desirae, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?

It’s kind of messed up but, fear. The fear of never being who I dreamed of hunts me honestly. I know I’m never going to be that cookie cutter dream version but I could try to get to the closest possible version of it. And I’m not just talking about my career or tangible things, I’m talking about the person I see when I look in the mirror every morning. I want to proud of who she is morally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is Desirae Woltz. I am a 22 year old actress, choreographer, creative director, company director for Eve’s Ensemble, digital media student, podcaster for Just Ask Rae, professional dancer, summer school teacher, singer, songwriter. I am a multi-hyphenate human being that wears many hats throughout the week, even the day, but being able to weave in and out of my creativity in different spaces has been the one thing that has honestly saved me from myself. Way too often when we box ourselves into one thing and run with it, believing we are what we fully occupy, instead of allowing yourself to branch off into everything your heart desires. I am still in the developing phase of my career, I sort of use the collegiate idea of working on something new every semester of my life so I know I’m rotating through everything evenly. It also helps with burn out, which is a common thing you will come across as a creative. I still have a lot to get started, finished, and started again, keep an eye out for me. I might be on your Tv screen somewhere.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Around this time of year it’s way too cold in Detroit to be outside trying to do stuff, especially downtown. So this itinerary involves hats, gloves, maybe a parka and a good scarf. It’s going to be pretty cold, since we live by the water. First thing in the morning I’d make some salmon croquettes (the red can only) with rice and eggs and a tall glass of OJ. We’d eat breakfast and watch reruns of Married to Medicine while catching up on each other’s lives. Later on in the afternoon we would go check out the Black Panther Exhibition at the Charles H. Wright Museum in midtown and hit the Super Coney on clay for lunch. Of course I have to order a corn beef sandwich on an onion roll, with mustard and a coney on the side. Afterwards, we can go ice skating downtown at Campus Martius and watch each other take turns busting our behinds on the ice. For Dinner I want them to try Louisiana Gumbo on Gratiot. It’s literally my favorite place. I’m going to get my regular, cajun shrimp creole and a side of greens. Later on at night we could either go to karaoke night at Nandi’s or fight night at this random building and watch people box it out with the gloves. Honestly it’s going to be up to my friend on how they wanna end the night out, because my bed time is at 9:00 o’clock so I’m normally dragging my tail by the second activity LMFAO!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over the years I have been blessed to have different people in every season of my life to pour into me intellectually and spiritually. I thank God for bringing these people in my life to help me grow.
