We had the good fortune of connecting with Dorothea Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dorothea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My my thought process behind starting my group private practice was my commitment and passion for helping others address some of the challenging times that impact their lives. I wanted to target individuals, families, and couples that struggle with mental health issues. In a holistic approach. I wanted to draw from my personal and professional experiences, create a safe space, and also advance mental health awareness in the community

What should our readers know about your business?
My unique position in the private practice landscape can be highlighted through the following points:
My primary pride and motivation lie in assisting others, particularly in guiding new therapists as they embark on their professional journeys. This altruistic approach sets me apart in an industry often marked by competition and guarded secrets.

My path to success was not straightforward. I faced the challenge of navigating the industry largely on my own, as many in the field are reluctant to share insights. This journey has instilled in me the importance of transparency and mentorship.

Unlike many in the industry, I emphasize the importance of sharing knowledge and resources with fellow therapists. This approach not only fosters a sense of community but also helps elevate the overall standard of practice.

My brand, Real Perspective Counseling Agency, is more than just a name. It represents my core belief in providing therapy that is grounded in genuine, realistic perspectives. This authenticity is at the heart of my practice and is a key differentiator in the market.

My vision extends beyond local or national boundaries. I aspire for Real Perspective to be recognized globally as a symbol of authentic and effective therapy.

One of the most significant lessons I have learned and now champion is the idea of always helping others. This principle is not just a personal mantra but a foundational ethos of my practice.

I ensure that therapists working at Real Perspective are aligned with the agency’s philosophy, guaranteeing clients receive therapy that offers a ‘real’ perspective, true to the brand’s promise.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming and staying for a week, the first thing we would do is go to the spa spin about 6 to 8 hours just taking care of a self self-care is very important to me, the next place we were hang out, would be in my backyard, because I have a beautiful place where it brings peace of mind and just chill and not having anyone disturbi. We would eat in many different places we would go to Joe Louis for breakfast. We would go to J Alexander’s for lunch and definitely go to Somerset that we can do some shopping. The people we would connect with would be my family and Ron Dance and Ro Spit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my husband, Stacey Foster, who believed in me and encourage me to be all that God has created me to be and to give back to the community what has been instilled in me
