We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Dawson and Lynette Ulman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily Dawson and Lynette Ulman, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2012, we were looking for something completely different from our 9-5’s. Ultimately, we both fell into the wedding industry in very different ways. Emily walked into AGE one day and told the previous owner she was willing to do any work she had! After many years of growth and establishing the name in the community, All Grand Events + Floral was sold to Emily who focused on floral design.

Lynette joined a wedding planner friend on a wedding day as “help” and found her calling. In 2019, Lynette and Emily combined talents of floral design and wedding planning together.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We offer an elevated experience in floral, event design, and planning across the midwest, focusing on Mid-Michigan from Grand Rapids to Metro Detroit. We offer a unique approach to the area establishing a reputation for top-of-the-line customer service and event logistics, distinctive, organic floral designs, and bespoke event design. Our business is split 50/50 between corporate events and weddings.

We believe logistics and event aesthetics go hand in hand in creating the perfect well-thought-out wedding or event. Having a split team in-house allows each of us to focus on a task meticulously. Our planning process allows for all of the questions to be answered in-depth and then handed over to the floral and design team to let the creativity shine for the aesthetics.

We have been perfecting the planning and design process for over 10 years! After each wedding or event, we take time to reflect on what went well, and what could have been better to make the changes necessary for future events. On event days our team is split into a planning team and a floral design team. This allows each of us to give 100% of focus where it’s needed. We have team members focusing on creating the perfect ceremony space while members of the planning team are greeting vendors and checking in on the wedding party. This truly allows for the smoothest of days for everyone involved!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We have built relationships with so many talented wedding industry friends. We lean on each other, refer out, and support one another on achievements. Jennifer Ederer from Modern Day Collective has been a supportive business mentor for years.
