We had the good fortune of connecting with Felix Akortse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Felix, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose an artistic career because it made me feel free to do anything that I wanted to during my undergraduate years, and now I’m able to share my passion, inspiration, identity, and cultural experience in my art work, and that helps me to navigate through the art world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an artist and a second-year graduate student at Montana State University, where I also teach undergrad students in a comprehensive foundations class. My art work dives into my experience in where I am coming from, which is my root as an identity, and where I have migrated to by exploring my culture to help me navigate through my current space. My journey has not been easy because of where I’m coming from, language and culture differences, and how the education is structured here, but due to motivation and where I want to go in life, everything is going well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The most fun place would be the museum of rockies here in Bozeman; it really inspires and is interesting to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I thank this organization for coming up with this shoutout idea and inspiring us on what we are doing as artists. I never knew someone would let me tell my story and how my journey has been. I’m really grateful to everyone who contributed to this amazing project. I give a shoutout to everyone in the artaxis.
