Meet Groovepill | Producers & DJing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Groovepill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Groovepill, why did you pursue a creative career?
We got into music as kids because we loved it and saw it as a way to express ourselves, not thinking about it as a career at first. Growing up, our families was all about music—everything from Detroit techno to early hip-hop and R&B. We started by making our own tracks before we got into DJing, and that eventually led us to create the kind of music we love, which also happened to connect with people.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is our unique blend of influences and authenticity. We’ve combined the sounds we grew up with—Detroit techno, early hip-hop, and R&B—into something that feels fresh but still pays homage to our roots. We’re all about creating music that’s true to who we are while connecting deeply with our audience.
What are you most proud of or excited about?
We’re most proud of staying true to our vision and seeing it resonate with people. It’s exciting to watch our music grow and reach new audiences, knowing that it comes from a real place of passion and creativity.
How did you get to where you are today professionally
It’s been a journey of persistence and self-belief. We started making music just for the love of it, and over time, as we honed our craft and connected with people, opportunities began to open up. It’s been about staying dedicated and consistent.
Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
It definitely wasn’t easy. There were times when we doubted ourselves or faced setbacks, but we pushed through by staying focused on our goals and leaning on each other for support. Each challenge taught us something valuable, and we’ve grown because of it.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
We’ve learned that patience and perseverance are everything. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and it’s important to stay grounded and open to learning. Also, staying true to ourselves and our sound has been key—it’s what makes our work meaningful.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
We want people to know that our music comes from a place of authenticity and passion. It’s more than just sound—it’s a reflection of who we are and where we come from. Our story is about embracing creativity, breaking boundaries, and inspiring others to do the same.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Where would you eat?
For food, I’d take them to **Puma** it’s one of Detroit’s gems. It’s the perfect place for a fire meal, and their drinks are top-notch too. And obviously we got to also hit a coney too (dulys place in southwest is the best)
Where would you drink?
We’d hit up **UFO Bar** chill atmosphere with great drinks, and later check out the vibe at **Spotlite or speakrbox**
Where would you visit?
We’d go to the Detroit Institute of Arts and Eastern Market would also be on the list.
Where would you hang out?
At night, **Spotlite** is a must—it’s not just a bar but also an event space with music, art, and a great crowd. During the day, we’d go record shopping at peoples, spotlite and paramita.
Who are some of the most fun, interesting, or exciting people or things to check out?
The local artists and musicians who make Detroit’s creative scene thrive are always worth meeting. You’ll find them at places like **Spotlite** or during events at Eastern Market. The city’s mix of culture and grit is what makes it so exciting.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to shout out some of our good friends and collaborators also coming up in the Detroit music scene. Shoutout to New Detroit, Shoutout to HiTech! Shoutout to DastardlyKids and NuSonics, Also shoutout to Bad Listener and everyone over there! And shoutout to everyone keeping techno alive!
