We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Korte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Any “regular” job I ever worked never felt right to me. Even before I actually entered the work force the typical 9-5 never appealed to me or felt like something I wanted to do. Once I was old enough to realize that I could pursue something creative and actually make money doing it, all bets were off. I only worked jobs that weren’t creative to help me along the way to a full-time creative career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work primarily in digital photography for my art. I take great pride in photographing colorful and fun moments for people that they can cherish for a lifetime. I find it so special to be a part of exciting times in people’s lives, like weddings or the arrival of a new family member, that I may normally not be privy to. The road to where I am currently has not been the easiest, and it continues to be difficult at times. Lots of No’s and many times where the money isn’t where you need it to be, so you have to figure out how to supplement your income until you’ve built enough of a business and name for yourself to have photography be your own source of income. You just have to be persistent!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places to be is Greenfield village in Dearborn. I’ve been going there since I was a child and still love being there. I would love to take a friend there to visit and always recommend going if you can! The molasses cookies at the sweet shop are delicious! I would also recommend going on a walk in downtown Detroit! Jojo’s shake shack or Union assembly is a great place for lunch as well as the Bucharest grill. There are always so many things changing down town and always something to do!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents and my fiancé have always incredibly supportive in my endeavors. As a child my parents were always encouraging me to do what felt best for me even if it was something that might not guarantee me financial stability. The 3 of them are always making sure I have what I need to be successful in my career and feel supported in doing so. I am so happy and grateful to have them in my life.
