We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Rainy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I have always been drawn to learning and a strong willingness to learn from something even if I don’t Agree or Like the Concept of it. So that can be collecting different books and listening to Podcast that I find on how the brain works to very detailed How-To books on how to draw something or how someone came up with a design. I have stacks of Dictionaries, Encyclopedias & random books of various knowledge in my home. I take almost Everything as a learning Experience. I Also have a habit of thinking Outside of the box on how to do something and I understand that not Everyone is always going to see why I may do it a certain way. I never take a setback as a failure & Celebrate it as a learning Experience either way. When It Comes to my business I always Establish My boundaries and Expectation of Working together first because it automatically shows that I respect their time and mine. I also would Say the biggest habit is Acknowledging when I am not feeling 100% I don’t Mind Expressing That or being transparent in how that may affect my day/week/month. It keeps Me Accountable to myself and those whom I work with. It’s beautiful I think to be able to show up exactly who I am wherever I go in turn it shows that i’m human and shows to others that its okay to be human as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently I Classify myself as An artist of the human experience. I understand that over time my art will change just as I change. I often Tell People that I may not see something the same way tomorrow and am open to that change. I remember being 16 years old telling Myself that in the Future all I wanted to do was 3 things. Paint Abstract,Poetry and Connect with people. That has been & is continuing to bring me joy everyday of my life in every way.

I truly Appreciate every single moment of Life I have Lived even in uncomfortable overwhelming and easily misunderstood moments. I strive to be the frequency of love in all things including my art, even when it’s not universally grasped or understood. Through my art, I offer a glimpse into my personal view of the world around me. My art is a reflection of my journey and I explore the intricacies of the human experience through various mediums whether that be Art through Canvas (canvas being anything I can get my hands to paint on from glass to furniture) or Words in the form of writing on paper or performance like Spoken word, Freestyle or Slam.

A central theme in my work is the exploration of Love and what that means. I was born 528( Healing Frequency) so I think its always been really interesting for me to explore that in my work. I love to Create with my hands. Especially Abstract Paintings, It’s what I Most Love creating. It’s Freeing and so interesting To see the drips Colors or lack of colors Come Together the way that they do with diffrent tools i use aswell.

Any Experience, Emotion or idea can be made into an abstract piece. It’s So intricate personal to you yet connected to outside of you. It’s a whole language. Many Of My Paintings include Some of My Poetry or Thoughts in them or just observations I’ve Made in my journey.

I Love the challenges, & Lessons that constantly creating brings in Different environments I’ve Painted or Written in. For Example, when i’ve Traveled to North Carolina for snowboarding. I’ve noticed Myself reflecting on that experience using more Blue hues and my Technique Changes. I Love Every single Experience i have had when making Art.

I remember My first time Creating an art piece I was Frustrated and Threw My Paint ,Covered It with Spray paint and threw Glass on it. Later on I ended up Learning about The colors I Choose For that Piece after Teaching Myself Color theory while Designing a website for someone. To see two Moments Connect Like that just for Me is beautiful . My Art has also been used in a cathartic way to sooth my Complex PTSD. I used to shy away from sharing my mental health in my art but I absolutely embrace it now especially in my poetry. I actually Created an Entire Collection called the Chaos collection that dives in to the healing journey of experiencing a PTSD and the Symptoms and how I healed in different ways from that.

I learned that universally we all go through things, Maybe not the Exact same thing but we all go through things that shift our viewpoints on many different levels within ourselves and Perspectives. And that’s okay. I Love that art can be so Explorative and it teaches us to show up it moves us to look at something and share its meaning. Art will always be here and We will always create and share our thoughts in whatever form that may be regardless of where we come from, have experience and our time here on earth. universally it connects us whether we agree with something someone makes or now. Whether we like someone or not. Whether we want to create or not.

From the deepest form of Love, Grace and Gratitude I want people to know that everyone is an artist. Even If that is not their chosen career path even if its just a Hobby. Whether that be in the way we speak to someone or in how we write or communicate or design or file a paper. It’s the way we walk and move. Art is all Around us and we (can) contribute to it every moment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I like this Question because i need to plan this anyways. Ha! I would Start off with Letting Them know Were going All Over the State I don’t mind Day trips at all. I’ve been All over Michigan but I would start out in Lansing Just Because Its My hometown and the Capital. I would take them to Horrocks and We Would definitely be cooking With some of the Fresh Vegetables & Picking up some imported Sake. I’m not Picky on that at all. As long As i’m spending time with My Bestie. I can eat Pretty much anything and i’m good. I do love sushi which brings Me to My favorite Spot in Town . Were heading to Korea house one of those days and filling up on all the appetizers they give you before hand. Till this day I can’t comprehend the amount of food they give you for your dollar. Then we are going to Uncle Johns Cider Mill another Day because for one its Nostalgic for me and Most people in my area i’d say. I show them Ann arbor for Sure because of Art and then we’d head To Detroit for Some dope Art and Poetry and shows and hit the Amtrack to Chicago one of the days.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely want to Shoutout the Artist and poets that have always Dedicated their time to talking with me through the years from when I first started! Shout out To Isaac Duncan at Duncan Sculpture for always answering any questions I had about the art world and always keeping it 100% I know he was busy many times but he always took his time to help me stay in the right direction. Also I want to Shoutout Genesis the Greykid for His Time and sharing his kindness to the world. Again another Person who introduced me to few great people and kept my mind moving forward with my art and to not be so worried about what’s going on around me. I’ll always be grateful for that. I’m Grateful for every Artist, Poet, & Sculptor & organizations that i’ve been part of along the way. Shoutout To WIA Gallery & Wolf De Roses an artist who Never let’s Me quit. My biggest appreciation goes out to God. He’s guided, shielded and prepared me in life to where I am today.
