Meet Hannah Richey | Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Richey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I actually didn’t originally plan on starting a business. I originally started wire wrapping glass beads around silverware and making beaded wind chimes to reduce anxiety. People then started asking if they could purchase my products. Here we’re 5 years later. People started asking to purchase my product 4 different times I made stuff for my mom. I never thought I’d have my own business. God obviously had other plans. I also work at our local library in Clarkston Michigan and love it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am on the autism spectrum that is why it’s called Hannah Joy Spectrum Designs. I want to inspire others who are either on the spectrum or have anxiety to do what God created them to do. I am most proud of the fact that u am a business owner who happens to have autism and overcame a lot of anxiety. Though I still struggle at times with anxiety this business helps reduce that anxiety. I do craft shows a lot some are awesome some are not so great as far as sales. It’s hit or miss at craft shows I would say to other business owners don’t get discouraged if you have a not so good craft show. It’s always hit or miss. What matters is getting your name out there and passing our business cards.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would love to take them to Hawaii honestly. I would love to eat shaved ice, and drink a mocktail, and swim with dolphins. My dream is to go to Hawaii. As far as Michigan I would love to go to Houghton Hancock or the Upper Peninsula or Mackinac Island with a friend. I am someone who loves traveling. I love going to new places. I am always open to new things.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to my mom. Without her i don’t know where I would be where I am today. She is not only an amazing assistant but an awesome mom. I am so thankful for all the help my mom has given me not only for my business but also for where I am today because of her. I love you mom and am so thankful for you and would not be where I am today if it weren’t for you. My mom is also the glue that holds our family together.
