We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Fishkind and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what do you attribute your success to?
While I love food and like cooking, cooking is not my passion. To be successful, I had to treat my website like a business, not a hobby or passion project. This meant focusing entirely on my target audience and their needs and separating what I like to eat or cook from what my audience wanted and needed.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
There are thousands of websites being created every day. Only a tiny percentage of recipe websites bring income in; a smaller percentage can make it a full-time career, and, even a smaller number thrive. In order to be in that top percentage, you must constantly have your pulse on the trends and changes and be willing to pivot completely. The best lesson I have learned is to build a strong community around you. When you do well, they do well, and visa versa. I have built an excellent team that I couldn’t even imagine where I would be without them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown Detroit. 10 years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined hanging out there for the day or going there at night for a night out. Now, it is thriving. There are amazing restaurant, hip vibes, great shopping and it is getting more amazing every day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Other women in my industry. The online world is a huge space. There is a strong group of bloggers in my community that early on, learned that there is enough room in this space for all of us. The more we worked together, the better we all did, the more we grew, and we built each other up while building ourselves up at the same time.
