Meet Jessica Adeola | Cake Lady/Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Adeola and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m a person who loves to learn especially hands on. Growing up I was always in the kitchen watching my mom cook and asking questions. When I turned 18 teen I moved out and got my own place. I started baking when I was 19 and made my first Blueberry cheesecake. I knew I wanted to learn more and get more experience in baking. In 2014 I moved from my home town with two small kids to Georgia to go to school. I attended le Cordon Bleu in Tucker ga which was not a easy road but that’s a different story. I graduated with a 2 year degree in baking and patisserie. I still kept baking though and trying sell my desserts. It didn’t go well being a mother with small children no business knowledge of starting a business at all. I lived under rules which I still do, I receive assistance with my rent and its only so much I can do and afford to do. If they find out I’m trying to start a business I lose the assistance. After I graduated, I got married in 2016 of August. In February of 2017 I signed up with legal zoom to get my business started. The name my mother helped me because of the journey I encountered coming to Georgia. Through the years I’ve learned a lot, i dont bake much now, my calling is to help and give back. So I take my talents and give instead. I bake and give it away, cook and give away. So that’s how I encountered the idea of my business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well professionally I’m not where I want to be. Am I proud yes and no. Why I say that is because at some point I stop trying to please people and do what makes me happy. I enjoy just making people happy. I have a giving heart. Professionally where I work doesn’t have anything to do with what I enjoy doing because I work at an elementary in the cafeteria. There isn’t much I can do there because I am limited. The lessons along the way in starting a business is that it takes time and consistency. In order to have a successful business you gotta have the knowledge and understanding of the business. Your business has to be different from others. My brand does have a story and accomplishments within the story. I want to let people stepping away from what they know to and to not be afraid or fear the unknown. Don’t let people tell you your idea isn’t going to work because there are so many businesses doing the same, that is why yours is different.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well to be honest I haven’t had the opportunity to really experience anything different than what I know or have seen. I have children so mainly what I have done was affordable for family outings when possible. If I was able to and knowing that my best friend never went anywhere exciting. I would do a cruise, since I don’t know much about the food and the things interesting this would be something exciting fun for the both of us. Another place would be Vegas because of the casinos and games.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
the only person I can give credit to is my mom as she is no longer with us, she deserves the credit and recognition. If it wasn’t for my mom just giving me inspiration and positivity, I probably would’ve just given up a long time ago. But she believed in me and kept me in prayer.
