We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Fuleky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jill, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
How to know to give up or keep going…

In the sense of life or work… ?

As someone who has spent the majority of my life struggling/ bleeding/ suffering on the battlefield of depression and suicide, having kids no longer made suicide an option for me. Some say that’s not enough, but it is for me.

While some define themselves by their work, and although my work is such a big part of who i am, it’s helped me and my depression/ suicidal thoughts. It’s aided my depression. I am a pain management massage therapist, and and authorized level 2 ashtanga yoga teacher. I consider both to be crucial forms of healing for mind, body and spirit.

I come from a lifetime of trauma, physical/ sexual/ emotional abuse. I experienced the murder of a loved one as i was entering high school. Finding love where i could, i found myself in one abusive relationship after another.

I felt hopeless and if this was life, why would or should i keep going.

Facing my past, accepting it, not letting it define me through yoga and meditation helped.

But having kids, an unconditional love, deeper than i could have ever imagined saved me.

It’s all about love, and i feel like i finally have

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop- any Zingermans Biz.

2nd- a hike in bird hills.

3rd- find some live music at the blind pig.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Brennan Andes- hes been one that’s constantly been there for me no matter what. If it wasnt for him and his band the macpodz, i doubt I’d be where I’m at.

My dad- you are my hero. Again, someone that would do anything for me.

Matthew Darling- my beloved yoga teacher that held my hands through the darkness of me working through my ‘shit’ on the yoga mat.

Ari weinzwig- without you and zingermans, i wouldnt know ANYTHING about business and the art of giving great service.

Jen Giacomelli- the most inspiring person i know- has always taken me under her wing. I love her dearly
