Meet Joseph Lalonde | Leadership coach and author of Reel Leadership

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Lalonde and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I’ve been striving to create and build my personal development/leadership brand for years. I have tried all of the tools and tips the “experts” have told me. Many of those tips have failed. However, there’s one thing that I do that continues to build my brand and the awareness around my coaching and Reel Leadership. That thing?
Tenacity.
I don’t give up when things are going slow. I don’t give up when I don’t feel like writing another blog post, sending another email, or speaking at another engagement.
I do things. That’s how you see success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart? That’s easy. I stopped pushing the thought of hustle culture being good culture. Instead, I help people understand how and why they can grow themselves through entertaining activities. The biggest of which is leadership growth through the movies. I know that movies can have a huge impact on the lives of those watching them. I think of my wife’s cousin. He absolutely loves movies. He can quote them frontward and backward. By using the knowledge and memorization of these films, you can help your team actually remember important leadership actions and ideas.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay, this is a great, fun question. Here’s what I would plan for them:
We’d start off on Monday by going to Aldea. It’s a great little coffee shop in downtown Muskegon and Grand Haven. We’d enjoy a coffee or, my drink of choice, a chai latte.
Afterward, we’d head down to Pere Marquette, where we’d spend time at the beach. We’ve got amazing beaches that would blow your mind. Whenever people visit they find it hard to believe it’s a lake and not an ocean. Knowing me, we’d probably finish off the day there.
Tuesday: We’d head downtown and explore the food and restaurants that line a reinvigorated area that was once dying. We’d stop by Rad Dad Tacos for lunch. If there’s a Muskegon Lumberjacks hockey game going, we’d stop to watch that. To finish off the day, we’d swing into Dr. Rolf’s BBQ.
Wednesday: We’d start Wednesday off with a great run. We’d have two choices. We could run down to Lake Michigan and turn around at the 3 mile mark or we could run along the shores of Muskegon Lake (that’s right, there’s plenty of water here!). For breakfast, we’d head to Toast And Jams. Their food is always amazing. We’d hit the Cinema Carosoul for a mid-afternoon movie. Then finish our day at The Station for an amazing peanut butter burger.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Whenever I hear this question, there’s one name that comes to mind. Dan Miller has been a huge influence on what I’ve done and was the impetus to what I’ve built.
