We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliana Meidl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juliana, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Home organizing has become a more popular service over the past few years with the success of some TV shows. While it is always exciting to see the physical transformations in a home, it is the emotional transformations that are the true key to this industry.

The mental toll clutter in the home can have on a family can not be overstated. We see the stress and chaos caused by clutter and work with our clients to eliminate it. Our goal is to bring serenity to the homes of each of our clients so that they can focus on what matters most to them.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder and owner of Serenity At Home, a Rochester, MI based home organizing business servicing metro Detroit. I have been in business for over five years and I LOVE what I do.

Home organizing is so much more than making spaces in a home look pretty with nice bins and baskets, not that we don’t love doing that though! Many of our clients are so overwhelmed with the state of their homes. They are drowning in stuff and they don’t know where to start to get their homes, and lives, organized.

When working with our clients we initially meet during a complimentary in-home consultation. We review the spaces they want to tackle and get an idea what is causing the stress and how the family actually uses each space. From there we develop a personalized approach for each client that will achieve their stated goals.

The key to being successful in home organizing is being able to meet each client exactly where they are emotionally and guiding them through the process of letting go of all the stuff in their home that is holding them back. We have a specific approach that we use to efficiently and compassionately go through everything. We help our clients decide what to donate, keep and trash. From there we take care of getting everything that is staying organized and anything that isn’t staying out of the house at the end of each day.

When possible we always try to find the best home for our client’s donations. For example, we have contacts with several teachers in low-income school districts who we donate kid’s games and books to. We love donating home items to Humble Design, an organization that furnishes homes for families who are emerging from homelessness. We find that when our clients know their possessions are going to a good cause it is much easier to let them go.

The weight of clutter in a home causes so much stress. Being able to let go of the excess and create systems for organizing what remains can truly be life changing. The systems we create are designed with each family’s unique needs in mind. The goal is make sure these systems are easy to maintain and sustainable over time.

Being able to meet our clients exactly where they are emotionally and developing a personal relationship with each of them is the key to the success of our business and is what I believe differentiates us from other home organizers. Our satisfied clients are the greatest source of new business for us as we continue to grow.

I want people to know that when they work with Serenity At Home not only will they get amazing organization, but they get the support and guidance they need to truly transform their homes and lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many great places in Detroit to visit.

A must do would be Eastern Market on a Saturday followed by a walk on the Dequindre cut and riverfront. Lunch at one of the many restaurants around Campus Martius would be next. During the winter months ice skating at Campus Martius is so fun. In the summer the beach area is a great place to be.

We also love the DIA and The Motown Museum. Both are a must see when visiting Detroit for the first time.

Corktown is another area of the city that is so great to visit. There are some fun shops and several amazing restaurants, including Supergeil and Takoi.

Visiting Belle Isle is another must do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like dedicate my shoutout to my family. They have been so incredibly supportive of my decision to start this business and have been my biggest cheerleaders as I continue to grow and build Serenity At Home. Being a small business owner is a lot of work and I would not have accomplished what I have without them.
