We had the good fortune of connecting with Kierra K Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kierra K, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have chosen to pursue an artistic and creative career to support my mental health as well as to inspire others utilize a creative outlet as healthy form of expression. Mental health issues such as depression for example are often related to suppressed feelings. As a Fashion designer, I have the opportunity to create wearable art that is extremely unique from which I create from whichever emotion or experience I need to channel at that time. I play music while I create in order to enhance the depth of my mood. Having a create outlet as a career is the most therapeutic and successful tool that has helped me conquer several mental health limitations. From that, others are able to purchase an elaborate expressive piece that is so creative and unique that it speaks to their soul in a way that they feel seen or heard the moment that they put it on. Then there are those whom are intrigued enough to become the creator and I get to teach those individuals a tool.such as sewing that they can also use as an outlet. I have served in careers with absolutely no room for creativity and I was bored and mentally drained from the lack of freedom. My light is so much brighter when I have that freedom.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My brand OMG Key Da Brand offers wearable art that is hand crafted by me. I believe what sets me apart from others is my determination to give people what they want instead of what others want for them. My designs are bold and what I mean by that is that I don’t play it safe. A friend once told me that my clothes are those who know who they are. You’ll have to release yourself from what others think about your choice of Ensemble and instead think about who you really are and own it. This is something that is not easy to do in a world of critics. My designs are for the innovators and trend setters, my art is for the brave.

I began in the fashion industry as a model and makeup artist I traveled and I have met some amazing people who are now my friends. I was my biggest challenge because before I pursued this industry I was reluctant to meet new people because of some healing that I needed to do having had such a tumultuous life since childhood. However, I have committed to taking better care of myself and it shows. “There is beauty in the blossom “_Kierra

It’s not an easy journey, I have learned over and over that anything worth having is worth working hard for. What that looks like for me is taking good care of myself, giving good things in my life the spotlight instead of putting energy towards the things that don’t feed me well, being kind to myself even in error and qualifying myself for opportunities each and everytime.

I am very proud of what I have accomplished as a brand and as a being. I have recently been selected to participate in Paris Fashion Week and I have accomplished and I have continued my mental health journey as a lifetime commitment.

What I want the world to know about me, my brand and my story is that we are here to serve and inspire. I have found something beautiful to share with the world. I love what it is that I do and I would like to keep doing it. I define success in relation to my ability to pour into others and create opportunities for others. Therefore, when someone supports me and my business they know that they are supporting the community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend or a friend I knew was here for a week long trip there are a few places we would have to visit. One of which would be Breathe: Body work and Beautification with Jessica York in Ferdale for some relaxation. We would go by the water perhaps the River Walk would be a good start. We would visit the DIA.We would get dressed and dine on the roof top at Bars
Kamper’s Rooftop Lounge if we are feeling fancy or hop on the peddle bar and choose comfort.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shootout my close family and friends whom have been apart of the story that helped contribute to the content of my character. Those who continue to support my dreams and aspirations and those who have served as a self space for me to be myself.
