Meet Korletey Mimpay | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Korletey Mimpay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Korletey, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My music and business go beyond entertainment — they create opportunities. Through my brand, I employ and collaborate with producers, video directors, event organizers, and creatives, giving them income and exposure. I also use my platform to inspire the youth, showing that hard work and persistence can turn dreams into reality.
In addition, I invest in community projects, support charitable causes, and give back to those in need, especially in underserved areas. Whether it’s through free concerts, donations, or mentorship, I aim to uplift the people around me and use my influence to spark positive change in the world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an Afrobeat and Highlife artist with a deep love for blending African rhythms with global sounds. What sets me apart is my versatility — I can move seamlessly between soulful melodies and energetic dance tunes, creating music that resonates across cultures. I’m most proud of staying authentic to my roots while still evolving to meet the demands of the global music scene.
My journey here wasn’t easy. I started with limited resources, no big label backing, and countless moments where giving up seemed easier than going on. There were times I had to balance music with other hustles just to keep the dream alive. But I overcame those challenges by staying consistent, learning from every setback, and surrounding myself with people who pushed me to be better.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t just about talent — it’s about discipline, patience, and the courage to stay true to your vision even when it’s not popular. I want the world to know that my brand stands for resilience, authenticity, and the celebration of African culture. My story is proof that no matter where you start, if you keep working, believing, and growing, you can take your sound — and your dream — to the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting me in Duluth, I’d make sure they got the best of both worlds — the beautiful local scenery here and a touch of my Ghanaian roots.
Day 1: We’d start with brunch at Duluth Grill, then take a walk along the Lakewalk for those breathtaking Lake Superior views. Dinner would be at Va Bene with its cozy Italian vibes and lakefront patio.
Day 2: A nature day — hiking at Gooseberry Falls and ending at Canal Park for some shopping and ice cream at Love Creamery.
Day 3: A cultural mashup — cooking a Ghanaian feast at home (jollof rice, grilled tilapia, and kelewele) and inviting friends over for music and laughs.
Day 4: Road trip to Split Rock Lighthouse and then some craft beer tasting at Bent Paddle Brewing Co. in the evening.
Day 5: Live music night — whether it’s local bands downtown or heading to Minneapolis for a bigger show, we’d soak in the vibes.
Day 6: A chill day — kayaking or paddleboarding on Lake Superior, followed by dinner at OMC Smokehouse for some comfort food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the people who believed in me when the world didn’t know my name. First, my family — their unwavering love kept me grounded and focused. My fans, both in Ghana and across the world, have been the fuel behind my music; their support motivates me to push harder every day.
I also have to acknowledge the producers, engineers, and creatives I’ve worked with — they’ve helped bring my vision to life. And finally, to every mentor, industry friend, and even those who challenged me along the way — thank you. Every word, every lesson, every moment has shaped the artist and man I am today.
