We had the good fortune of connecting with Laquan Aulds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laquan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because I have always loved the idea of creation. Being able to craft something that hasn’t been made before is beautiful. It comes with its challenges but I wouldn’t trade what I do for the world. Being able to express myself is something that I find necessary in life, and to be able to make money is a bonus. I get to enjoy what I do, and am able to share that with my clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career as a mobile DJ started during the Covid-19 lock down. I always loved making music but was not in the position to do so. I bought a very cheap DJ controller and started to learn. Shortly after my brother-in-law asked me to DJ his wedding, and I’ve been on the move since. I believe that my attention to the client and lack of ego sets me apart from others. I’ve noticed many people in this profession have the ‘greater than thou’ attitude. I pride myself in being humble and being malleable to the needs of my clients.
This journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to sacrifice many nights with my daughter and wife. I’m learning how to compartmentalize my time and understand that everything I do is ultimately for them.
My brand, my motto, is ‘To Ascend, Condense’. I chose the name Delta because it’s the shape of a triangle. There’s many people and things at the bottom that will make it seem like you have it all, but once you shed the momentary happiness and unnecessary clutter you can really make it to the top. All I want people to know is that I am a real person, with real problems just like you. But if you use my services for your event together we can forget those problems and issues. Even if it is for just a night.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Welcome to Kalamazoo. The city of promise and potential. First I would start by taking my friend to the many amazing restaurants in the area. Hopcat, 600 Kitchen, Principle, or Crow’s Nest (to name a few). We could walk off some calories at one of the nature trails nearby. Of course we’d start our evening at a local brewery. Bell’s, Beer Exchange, or One Well. Then we could hit downtown and swing by the bars and clubs. My friend would undoubtably love Two Fellas as a night cap. There’s much more to see and do, but that would be a great day to share the best of Kalamazoo with my friend.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that deserve to be recognized and thanked, but I’ll keep it short. For those not listed, you know who you are, and what you’ve done. First I’d like to thank my wife Hannah. You are a great mother and the best partner. Only reason I’m able to do this is because of you. Next I’d like to thank my family. To my Mom and Tara, you guys helped me create Delta Entertainment and you’ve continued to help me grow. No words can express my gratitude. Lastly I’d like to thank my daughter Snoh. Snoh girl, you have no clue what you’ve helped me with. Maybe someday when you’re older you’ll see. You’ve pushed me hard. You made me want to be great, because good will never be good enough for you. You deserve the world and I promise to help you get it, just like you helped me. I love you.
