We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexie Sheick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexie, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?

First and foremost, I am capturing moments that will last a lifetime. I used to work at an assisted living home and I worked with patients that had dementia, all they had to look back on besides family visiting was photos. Due to this adventure in my life, it has brought me to want to capture as many photos and for everyone at an affordable rate. Once a quarter I offer “Pay What You Want” mini sessions. This allows me to capture moments for everyone at an affordable rate. Did I mention that all tips during these sessions go to a nonprofit organization? I love to take recommendations from my customers of the next nonprofit donation, but sometimes I choose a nonprofit that means something to me. For example, I was able to donate to Leukemia this past January. This cancer doesn’t run in my family, but touches my mom’s heart, because of the work she puts into the nonprofit organization for her own work functions. This April for my mini session I will be donating all tips to Alzheimer’s, which has significant meaning as my grandma passed away from this disease. A story that I love to share is about a couple that found me a couple months ago on social media. This lovely couple reached out to me and told me their story about being Leukemia survivors and were so grateful for the donations that they signed up for my next “Pay What You Want ” mini session, so they could donate to the next cause.

Hearing these types of stories or hearing how I have helped a family be able to capture moments that they have not been able to do is very heartwarming. Even though I have made this into a career for myself, it’s also about ways that I can help or give back to our community. This is why I do what I do!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

The biggest thing I am proud of is my progress. We all start somewhere and to see the growth in myself has been tremendous! I love my clients, I stay in contact with a lot of them and I am fortunate to capture many families more than once in a year or even once a year!

My family is the reason I got to where I am, and it has not been the easiest. I am still working full time as an office manager at a chiropractic office, but I am practically working two full time jobs at this point! Making sure we are financially stable is the biggest key. Before any kind of decision is made about my next step or the path I am going to take, I need to make sure that my family is set.

Right now I work all day during the week at the office, then on some nights I go home and edit, edit my site, respond to emails or texts, etc. On the weekends I do a lot of photography. I try to leave at least 1 day on the weekend for my family, typically Sunday (sometimes I squeeze people in because of schedules) but I really try to make sure I am making time for my family.

I am newer. I am still progressing and growing. I am a mom of two. My biggest focus is on my family, but I am also there for all of my clients or potential clients. I love to work and I love to keep busy!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

This one is tough. I am a homebody, but if we go out, let’s get sushi or steak! haha. I love to be by the pool with my family or even go walking. I love to go to places and walk, hike, bike, whatever you want to call it and go for a stroll!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In all honesty, I would say my family, faith, and Hannah Ziegler. First, my family has been my biggest support group and the backbone to it all. They have supported me when I have had to step away to go to a session or wedding to go photograph. My husband has taken care of our kids quite a few times so I can follow a passion of mine and build my business. As for my faith, I have prayed about this and still do! It’s hard to know “what the right decision” is, and when it comes to prayer, I feel like I am heard and led into the direction I am called to do. Last but not least, Hannah Ziegler. Hannah has also been an amazing support and mentor! I have worked with Hannah three or more times but have been in continuous communication regarding my work and business growth. She has been doing photography much longer than myself and she helps with everything! I definitely wouldn’t feel as confident as I feel if it wasn’t for her help!
