We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Gizicki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Hank a Roo Readings come from both of my children. Hank is my Henry, and Roo is my daughter, Harper. Her nickname is Roo like kangaroo. When I was pregnant with her I always joked that she jumped instead of kicked. She has had the name Roo ever since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My stories come from stories about my children. To the Moon and Back came from a conversation my family had during breakfast about chasing my son to the moon. The Pirate Doctor arrived because of my daughter’s ambitions to become a doctor for pirates when she got older. And The Guardians of the Garden was born out of my children’s desire to “save” our garden from pesky backyard critters. I think parents and children love these stories because they are so relatable to conversations and dreams their own children have.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, which is an amazing city to be in. Our favorite spots include the local parks, Veterans Memorial and Blossom Heath. There’s awesome food in the city as well. Baffin Brewery is within walking distance from us, they always have a great variety of food trucks there. When you’re by the water, you really can’t go wrong trying out a new place to eat. Mike’s on the Water has an awesome small-town atmosphere too.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t have been able to publish three children’s book without the support of my husband. He’s encouraged me from day 1. I’ve also had the assistance and guidance of so many self published authors who have come before me. The kidlit community is very welcoming. I had so many questions for fellow authors and they told me industry secrets and shared their lessons with me without question. I owe a lot of my success to them as well.
