Meet Lisen Helander | Holistic Wellness Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisen Helander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisen, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Reducing or cutting out alcohol has immeasurable impact on a personal, relationship, family and global level. One of the purposes behind the Friday Mind is to normalize low to no alcohol options through encouraging businesses to include all types of options on their cocktail menu. We all deserve to participate in the ritual!
Reviews of establishments can be found in the Where to Hang Blog.
I am also thrilled to announce my newest offering: Holistic Wellness Coaching.
Abnormal alcohol use has been normalized with those marketing dollars for far too long which has a huge negative impact on the body as a whole: mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
Taking a realistic and mindful approach to alcohol use was the cure of my own health, performance, relationship, and anxiety issues. Think if we all went into drinking alcohol with the knowledge of recent studies in neuroscience, psychology and health that was never taught to us?
Think of the community and even global impact if more of us walk into life with that natural high? Most of us do not realize there is a natural high in leading a healthy life due to all the dopamine quick-fix temptations all around us.
Launching The Friday Mind, a Holistic Wellness Coaching Practice, as well as coaching for the Reframe app have been some of my most challenging, empowering and rewarding days of my life.
Traditional, outdated recovery 12 step programs do not work for everyone and also bring stigmatic and shameful labels into one’s life.
I am here to coach others that it is OK to step back and work on the quick fix habit of alcohol, dig into the why and thrive in this life. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, so I instead get personal and customize a plan to help clients on all areas of the spectrum.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Friday Mind will help instill that Friday feeling on a daily basis. For the zero proof + community; our Where to Hang Blog promotes establishments that celebrate and acknowledge all, wherever you may be on the alcohol use spectrum.
This spans from being completely alcohol free (AF), sober curious, not drinking for an evening, not drinking for private, health or pregnancy reasons to enjoying alcohol with a mindful presence for all.
We specifically certify those businesses with a healthy mindset when it comes to both alcohol and alcohol free beverages, not those focusing only on the typical alcohol normalized menu.
After one year, I’ve grown the Friday Mind into a Holistic Wellness Coaching Practice.
As a Certified Holistic & SHE RECOVERS® Coach, I firmly believe in the “We are all recovering from something” guiding principle. My goal is to put the client at ease. If someone tells you they don’t have something they are working on, that I would question.
Coaching for the modern thinker is my motto and here to help all with this mindset! After all, it’s not just about looking at alcohol and your relationship with it. It’s also about your whole being: mind, body and spirit. It’s about moving from coping, healing to thriving in this present moment.
I started this concept as I want the same experiences alcohol fueled events provide without the repercussions. This also aligns with working on the whole person, not just a habit, which is where the crucial holistic part comes in.
Holistic Coaching believes that transformation happens on the mental, emotional and spiritual and physical levels. We’ll partner in this approach to reach where you are authentically meant to be, on the alcohol use spectrum and in other areas you’d like to explore in this adventure of life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Weekend Itinerary!
Friday – walk over to midtown to check out both alcohol free and other options at 8 degrees Plato. Move on over next door to Peterboro for dinner.
Saturday – meet at Run Detroit for a 3, 6, or 10 mile jaunt around the city. End at Craig’s Coffee for a fresh brew. Keep the movement going by walking to the Eastern Market for lunch. Check out a show at the Fox, Fillmore, Detroit Opera House or The Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Sunday – check out the Detroit Institute of Arts in the morning. Grab a late lunch or afternoon snack at Eminem’s own “Mama’s Spaghetti.” From there, walk the famous Woodward Ave for shopping and drinks. End at the Detroit Riverfront for sunset. Leila for dinner. Cannelle for dessert.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d LOVE to shout out these organizations for taking my own life from coping to healing to thriving!
