We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
In terms of my blog, the most difficult decision was probably rebranding: I was previously Yes/No Films, from about January 2009 through summer 2017, I believe, and I rebranded it to Yes/No Detroit. My reasoning behind that is that I was missing out on a lot of blogging opportunities because people believed I *only* blogged about films (at the time, I of course did blog about films, but also more lifestyle topics too, like traveling, food, and other entertainment). Since the rebranding, I definitely have had more opportunities to do sponsored posts, and continue posting about non-movie topics I enjoy, too, like theater shows downtown and food and restaurant reviews.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my blog in January 2010—a friend came up with the name “Yes/No Films,” and originally it was all movie reviews and movie news. The name “Yes/No” referred to ratings I would give the movies: Yes (as in Yes, see this movie); Maybe; or No. Later I rebranded to “Yes/No Detroit,” and now my blog is a lifestyle blog with a focus on travel, entertainment (I still do some movie reviews!), and food.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I most certainly have my favorite places in and out of Detroit. I’d probably take them to Bobcat Bonnie’s or Imperial in Ferndale, to grab some tacos and/or hot dogs, then we could head downtown to see a show at the Fox, Fisher, or Opera House. Downtown, I really love Mootz Pizzeria, too. I also like visiting the Detroit Zoo and the Henry Ford/Greenfield Village. I’m based in Clawson, and in the Troy area I really like Mr. Kabob Xpress, El Guanaco for its pupusas, and Green Lantern Pizza.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents definitely get a shoutout from me, for always supporting me in whatever endeavors I decide to take on, and for always being there for me. My fiance, for the same reasons, and of course, my Yes/No Detroit readers, as well, for being there throughout the years.
