Meet Lorenda Lewis | RN, Holistic Nutritional Full Circle Doula, CLC, Women’s Health Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorenda Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorenda, how do you think about risk?
Risks have played a role in my life/career by allowing me to grow personally and professionally. For years I thought there was no way I could do this kind of work for many reasons. However, I decided to step out on faith, take a leap, and go for it, while raising a family. Since then, doors have opened, not just for me but for other birthworkers and families in the communities. I’m learning when you follow your dreams by taking risks, you can achieve your goals in your life/career. I didn’t say it was easy though. There will always be obstacles and challenges along the way, but it’s how you respond and adapt to each situation that counts. No, we don’t always know what the result will be, but if we don’t take a chance in following our dreams, we will never know how much potential we have to succeed.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Healing with Dignity, LLC Where we Nurse the community Back 2 Health
Healing with Dignity was created to bring the basics of health and wellness back to the community. Oftentimes, people think it’s expensive to live a healthy lifestyle; but it doesn’t have to be. “Let me help you achieve a better quality lifestyle, ” is my motto.
A few Holistic Programs/Services/Products offered are doula services, CPR/First Aid through American Red Cross, nutrition education, Jewel premium sanitary napkins, Doterra Wellness, and more.
Where I am today in my business from where I started was a long road that I’m still traveling on. My dream as a child was to become a nurse, a teacher and an entrepreneur. I teach cpr/first aid classes as a licensed trained provider, I offer workshops for doulas to become medicaid providers, provide educational guidance to families, nutrition programs, and I’ve taught many health and wellness workshops in the communities over the years. I am a RN and own my own family business, where I include my children to work with me. The path to this road was not easy but worth every sweat, tear, time, and energy put into it. I have overcome many obstacles along the way but didn’t allow it to stop me from going after my dreams to become a successful entrepreneur and building a legacy for my family. A couple of things I’ve learned along the way is to encourage and mentor others in their endeavors and leave no one behind. I have many mentors and accountability partners that helped me throughout the years. Therefore, I have a passion for giving back to the community I serve to families, doulas, and others. I am excited about rebranding my website to make my services more accessible. What I want people to know about Healing with Dignity, LLC is how much compassion, sensitivity, and integrity we have to Nurse the community back 2 health.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I was born and raised in Detroit and visited many places in my hometown as well as in the state of Michigan. But in recent years, I realized there are way more places to visit and tour in my own backyard. Although we won’t be able to visit all the places, here are a few places we can go to while my best friend is visiting. A few of my family’s favorite restaurants and coffee shops are as follows:
A great place for brunch with colleagues or family is The Great Commoner at 22001 Michigan Ave Suite 100, Dearborn, MI 48124. Sheeba, an authentic Yemeni cuisine is a great restaurant for dinner at 22048 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, MI 48124. The Shop Experience is a cozy spot for tea, coffee and snacks to meet a colleague or business partner at 17340 W McNichols Rd, Detroit, MI 48235. Qahwah House, which stands for Coffee House also has coffee, teas, and pastries is at 6655 Schaefer Rd. Dearborn, MI 48126
Places to tour. I get memberships so my family can enjoy throughout the year: Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History 315 E Warren Ave, Detroit, MI 48201. Campus Martius Park is a great place for ice skating in the winter and bike riding in the summer at 800 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226. Ford-Wyoming Drive-In 10400 Ford Rd, Dearborn, MI 48126. The Greenfield Village/The Henry Ford is a historic museum with lots to view including but not limited to artifacts, trains, restaurants, playground for kids, horses, the model T cars, indoor and outdoor tours, and more at 20900 Oakwood Blvd. Dearborn, MI 48124. The Detroit Zoo at 8450 W. 10 Mile Rd. Royal Oak, MI 48067. Mackinac Island 7274 Main Street Mackinac Island, MI 49757. Wish I could list more but this is a start.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have many people, organizations, books, etc I could give a shout out to, but there is a special person that deserves recognition in my story. Khadeejah Da Doula. Although shy at first, once you get to know her you learn how much of an incredible and amazing person she is. We have our own businesses but work in the community together as birthworkers serving expecting moms and their families to help improve birth outcomes. Although we haven’t known each other for long, the times we spend together with work and family couldn’t have come at a better time for both of us. She has made a great impact in my family’s life since I’ve known her and how she shows up in the community as a liaison and advocate for doulas and families alike, speaks volumes of her character. I couldn’t have asked for a better work partner than Khadeejah Da Doula.
