Meet Lorenzo Lumetta | Photographer and videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorenzo Lumetta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorenzo, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Starting out on this entire endeavor was a complete risk. I decided to leave college at the end of my sophomore year to fully pursue photography and videography with only one class for media production under my belt, but I knew my own limits and what I was capable of doing so taking that risk of leaving behind a degree was one I was willing to take. It’s just one of many risks I’ve taken to pursue the life I want to lead, and so far those risks have paid off. You cannot grow as a person or a business without leaping into the unknown. Sure, it’s scary, that’s why it’s a risk. My business I’ve built might have not worked, I could’ve played it safe, choosing to spend the money to get a degree and probably get a low paying job that was secure and stayed there for the forseeable, but why settle for anything less than what’s worth taking risks for? I would choose the risky life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting where I’m at now was not a clear or easy process. I grew up loving movie making, but aside from being obsessed with cameras and films, I didn’t see a future in it until all my hopes and dreams for a environment science major at college fell through. I found myself choosing a major in Communications before I decided to take a random class in Media Production, and for the first time I understood that it is entirely possible to pursue the things I only dreamed of doing before. So I left, I left the security of getting a degree, choosing to invest in equipment instead of a piece of paper, choosing to let my skills define who I am, not a title someone gave me for completing a certain number of classes. Starting out with it was never going to be easy, from finding people who wanted photoshoots to figuring out through trial and error how I wanted my brand to look and even how to grow in my skills, it’s still not easy. But nothing in life is easy, if it was I wouldn’t want it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best adventures I’ve had have always been in the most unassuming places. I’ve watched a total solar eclipse in a the tiny farmer town of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. I’ve found the most beautiful lakes and creeks in the middle of nowhere northern Michigan. There is beauty in every town, every city, every township if you take the time to look for it. I would take my friend to every single thing that they would be down for.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is no one person that I can thank for this, every single person who has agreed to a photoshoot, asked for help making a video, helped me build my business, or supported me in any small way has helped build this business. It’s truly been a team effort from everybody.
