Meet Lucas Trompeter | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucas Trompeter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucas, what makes you happy? Why?
Being a photographer brings me immense joy as it allows me to express my creativity and vision through the lens. The process of framing a scene, adjusting settings, and capturing the perfect shot is a fulfilling and satisfying experience. Moreover, each photograph becomes a peek or unique look into that individual. The ability to find beauty in ordinary people and share those perspectives with others adds an extra layer of happiness to my passion for photography.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think a large thing that separates my work from a lot of other photographers is my use and obsession with projectors. By utilizing projectors as both lighting tools and dynamic backdrops in my photography it has allowed me to create unique atmospheres and unique lighting styles for my models. This technique allows me to project textures, patterns, or even thematic imagery onto subjects, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. The interplay of light and shadow, combined with the versatility of projected visuals, adds a distinctive and immersive quality to my work. It’s a creative approach that not only sets my photography apart but also opens up endless possibilities for crafting visually stunning and thought-provoking images that stand out in a competitive field.
Learning how all this works and could come together was definitely not easy. I had spent several photo sessions just trying this technique out over and over and over again until I was finally able to conjure up the right combinations of camera settings and lighting and projections to not just look like a complete mess of a photo.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way? Never be afraid to experiment and try new things. A lot if not all my best work has been from countless trial and error without the time and dedication I’ve spent with experimenting I would not be where I am today with my art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ferndale would be my top choice for a night or day out, offering a bunch of different activities. The diverse array of restaurant options caters to various tastes, providing a culinary adventure. With vibrant concert venues and engaging local art shows, Ferndale ensures there’s always something exciting happening. It’s a dynamic and lively destination, guaranteeing a fun and unique experience every time you visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well first I would like to give a special shoutout to my incredible models, Brittany Girard and Stevie Mattiello. Working with them has been an absolute pleasure and has elevated my photography to new heights. Their creativity and genuine personalities bring life to every frame, turning mere photos into art. Collaborating with them has not only been artistically fulfilling but has also created a bond that goes beyond the lens.
Additionally, a big shoutout to the amazing band Antighost, for giving me oppertunities to capture the energy and essence of their live shows. They also have AMAZING music and you should look them up and come out to one of their live shows if you can.
For everyone I mentioned it’s an honor to work with such talented individuals, and their performances provide me with dynamic and inspiring moments to capture. Grateful for these collaborations that make my photography journey truly enriching.
