We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyanna Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyanna, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
As parents, my partner and I have dedicated ourselves to revealing the endless possibilities within our children’s grasp. Our goal is to provide them with experiences that may have eluded us and nurture them into well-rounded individuals, brimming with confidence, courage, and creativity. As a parent to three Black girls, it’s my duty to empower them with the knowledge of their immense capabilities in a world that may sometimes doubt them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m Lyanna Moore, a certified doula, lactation specialist, community organizer, and a proud mother of three amazing daughters. I am the founder of Moore 2 Love Doula Services, where my mission is to provide non-judgmental education, unwavering support, and compassionate care to ensure that my clients have a birthing experience that is safe, informed, and empowering.

As a doula, my primary goal is to empower my clients, equipping them with knowledge and positivity so they can embrace a birthing experience that’s both informed and joyful. My journey into the world of birth work was ignited by the stark disparities faced by Black birthing individuals. I felt a calling to be a part of the change that was so desperately needed.

One of my proudest achievements over the past 1.5 years is the incredible progress I’ve made. I’ve established meaningful connections with local organizations, fellow birthworkers, and have been honored to assist families in creating beautiful birthing experiences. While the path of a private doula practice presented its unique challenges, it has been a deeply rewarding journey.

Building a business from the ground up with limited resources was no small feat, but I am immensely grateful for the support and guidance I received from Spring GR, which has helped me become a more skilled entrepreneur. Balancing the roles of entrepreneur, mother, wife, and employee was a learning curve, but I’ve mastered the art of maintaining my own mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Moore 2 Love Doula Services is not just a business; it’s a commitment to our community. I’m dedicated to working tirelessly to ensure that families receive the birthing experience they rightfully deserve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
40 Acres Soul Kitchen: This place is a must-visit. The food is not just good; it’s phenomenal! The vibes are immaculate, and they serve amazing drinks. It’s a Black-owned gem that also boasts a cognac bar and even offers karaoke during the week.

Ginza: If you love ramen as much as I do, you’re in for a treat at Ginza. They serve some of the best ramen in town. My go-to bowl is the Champion Ramen, brimming with delicious seafood.

Rising Grinds Cafe: When I need a change of scenery for work, Rising Grinds Cafe is my go-to spot for remote work. It’s a cozy little coffee shop with great food and coffee to keep me fueled.

Grand Rapids offers a plethora of creative activities that I absolutely enjoy. I often find myself exploring the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM), taking serene strolls through Frederik Meijer Gardens, and getting artsy at Brush Studio for a fun paint and sip experience. And for a dose of cinematic enjoyment, Studio Park is my choice, where you can recline and have delicious food brought right to your seat!

Grand Rapids has an impressive selection of breweries, wine bars, and live music venues. So, if you’re in the mood for some craft brews, a glass of fine wine, or a live concert, you’re covered.

Grand Rapids truly has something for everyone, and I hope you get a chance to explore these fantastic spots soon
