We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to venture on my own as a creative to help businesses and organizations have their choice heard on a professional level. I see many places trying to do marketing on their own and see where they fall short. I’m here to make ideas possible and to share experiences.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting to where I am today has been challenging yet rewarding. I started with a Bachelor’s degree in motion graphics but not knowing a lot about video production. Fast forward 10 years and I won an Emmy Award as a video producer, which is quite astounding! I’ve established a wide spectrum of digital media know-how and have been putting it to use for my photo & video business Matthew Taylor Media in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For summer time, I would take my best friend kayaking from a small river in West Michigan or go camping at a state park along Lake Michigan. As well as going to the beach. Checking out Frederik Meijer Amphitheater for a fun show or Stonehenge downtown GR. There’s a lot of fun restaurants and bars to check out that are independent. Golfing at countless courses around the area, county parks for fishing and so much more.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The people I’ve worked with in the past have helped me shape who I am today. I’ve been learning from past mistakes and doing my best moving forward. Learning is essential in every aspect of life and have been improving drastically! I’ll continue to raise the bar for excellence as a resource for the community.
