We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Meekhof and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been passionate about high school sports and wanted to give student athletes a platform to share their stories and gain exposure. I also want to give college and high school students interested in pursuing a career in journalism an opportunity to gain experience in the field.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I want to use my platform as a positive for my community. We’re not going to write negative stories to try to get cheap clicks, we’re covering high school football. BorderWars Sports is about promoting high school athletes, coaches, and communities and highlighting their successes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown Detroit without a doubt. It’s one of the most underrated areas of the country in my opinion. I would grab lunch at Lafayette Coney Island, take them to a Lions game, walk the Detroit Riverwalk, and grab dinner at Fishbone’s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All of my family, friends, and supporters over the years. They have helped me celebrate my high’s and picked me up on my low’s. I have no idea where I’d be without such a strong support group.
