We had the good fortune of connecting with Miriam Vukich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miriam, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have been an artist/creative my entire life…there actually was no other choice but for me to pursue a career as some form of an artist. I believe that one should follow the path laid before them…for me, that was art.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It has been a long road to where I am now but, it started in my hometown of Los Angeles when I decided (in the mid 80s) to become a makeup artist…which then led to an oft times illustrious 35 yr career. I worked and had many famous clients, did a lot of rather well known things during that time. And while I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunities that I was afforded, I needed to see if just maybe the art I produce could be more of an insular form-not something that can be washed off at the end of the day. So I decided to quit “Hollywood”, moved to Detroit, MI and throw all my energies into what I now call ‘PunkRockPopArt’! It took a minute to find my voice, but once I did, the flow just came! I added ALL the elements I love creatively into an artistic caldron (if you will) and started stirring. I’m continually learning (what works what doesn’t) and am challenged daily, but those challenges are where I learn the lessons that keep propelling me forward. Never giving up on your unique vision…best lesson ever is staying true to yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This actually happened earlier this year….Detroit is my favorite place on Earth (I’m so glad I picked this amazing city to call my home) EVERYTHING is good here! Fantastic food (from the best breakfast joints to the most amazing Mediterranean food anywhere in the country!) Summertime is one big outdoor music festival and just hanging out at any number of local bars…fun is to be had! We also have an incredible and vibrant downtown…and our sport teams are GOAT!! But music….the music scene in this city is second to none!!! I would put my city of Detroit up against any…we’re just that good!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a SHOUTOUT to my parents for encouraging me to find a way to make a living out of my artistic abilities. I also would like to broadly SHOUTOUT every single person who has ever praised, bought, shared, and supported me throughout my varied life as an artist.
