Meet Misty Renee | Esthetician & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Renee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misty, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I began my journey to become a licensed esthetician, I recognized a gap in the industry for a space where women could not only see noticeable results but also truly unwind. I quickly realized my passion extended beyond just providing treatments; I wanted to create a safe environment that embodied my vision of skin and scalp care, as well as self-care. My thought process was driven by a desire for autonomy and the opportunity to foster genuine connections with my clients. I aimed to offer a personalized approach that caters to individual needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all solution. My studio is designed to provide a private, one-on-one experience, ensuring that each client receives personalized attention and relaxation. Building my own brand allows me to curate the services and products I truly believe in, so that each client leaves feeling not only rejuvenated but also empowered in their skin and self-care journey.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tell us more about your business. What sets you apart from others?
I’m the proud owner of Skin + Halo, a private luxury studio where I offer personalized skin care and Japanese inspired head spa treatments. What sets Skin + Halo apart is the focus on creating an immersive, relaxing experience for my clients. I take a holistic approach to skincare, blending cutting-edge treatments with thoughtful touches, which elevates both skin health and mental well-being. I’ve carefully curated every part of the experiences I offer to help clients feel refreshed and glowing, inside and out.
What are you most proud of or excited about?
I’m thrilled with the intimate and inviting space I’ve created at Skin + Halo. It’s a sanctuary where clients can not only receive high-quality skin & scalp treatments but also feel nurtured and cared for. I’m most excited about helping people embrace self-care and self-love through their journey. Seeing the transformation in both their skin and confidence is the most rewarding part of what I do.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise? Was it easy?
It definitely wasn’t easy! Like many entrepreneurs, I am facing challenges in getting my business off the ground. Building a brand and finding my client base is taking time and patience. I had to learn how to market my services, manage my time effectively, and create a unique experience that reflected my vision. But each challenge taught me something valuable and pushed me to be more creative, especially when it came to connecting with the right clientele and setting up a space that truly reflects my passion for beauty and wellness.
How did you overcome those challenges?
I overcame challenges by leaning into education and mentorship. Whether it was taking advanced courses, attending trade shows across the country, or learning from industry experts, I made sure I stayed informed and updated. I also focus on creating strong relationships with my clients by listening to their needs and ensuring they received tailored treatments. This trust and connection with my clients will help my business grow organically through word of mouth, which is invaluable.
What lessons have you learned along the way?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of staying authentic to your vision. There will always be external pressures to conform to trends or follow someone else’s path, but success comes from staying true to your own brand and what makes you unique. Another important lesson is learning when to say no—whether it’s to certain clients, services, or opportunities that don’t align with your vision. Prioritizing quality over quantity has made a huge difference in the direction of my business.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand?
I want people to know that Skin + Halo is more than just a skincare studio / head spa—it’s a place of renewal and relaxation. My mission is to help people feel their best, not just by improving their skin, but by creating an experience that allows them to recharge and reconnect with themselves. I believe self-care is a form of self-love, and I’m here to help my clients embrace that in their daily lives. Skin + Halo represents the beauty in balance—both inside and out—and I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve built.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start the day with a delicious breakfast at The Laundry, renowned for its fresh, locally sourced menu in downtown Fenton. Afterward, we’d take a peaceful stroll around Silver Lake Park, enjoying the beautiful lake views and walking trails, or perhaps renting a kayak if we’re feeling adventurous.
Next, we’d head over to Spicer’s Orchard & Cider Mill to savor a glass of their famous apple cider, grab some delicious donuts, and browse through their market.
Afterward, we’d return to downtown Fenton for a leisurely walk through the local shops, followed by a quick stop at The Virgo Room to add a mystical touch to our day. We’d end the day with dinner at The Vault, the perfect spot to conclude our adventure in style.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly believe that my success is a collective effort, and I’m deeply grateful for everyone who has been part of my journey. I’d love to dedicate my shoutout(s) to several of my mentors, who has been instrumental in my journey as an esthetician.
First, Ashley Curtis, Founder of Ageless Ashley, helped me establish my brand and navigate the challenges of starting my own business. She guided me with product and treatment recommendations, offering her professional insights throughout the process. Her guidance on attracting the right clientele laid the foundation for my business, and I’m so grateful for her wisdom and support.
Secondly, Savannah Grizzaffe, an accomplished esthetician and Global Educator at Circadia, who has been an incredible source of inspiration and support. Her invaluable advice and expert guidance on selecting the right treatments have been game-changers for my practice. She has been there for me at every step of my journey, providing encouragement and insights that I truly cherish. I can confidently say that without her unwavering support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I also want to recognize Circadia for offering a wealth of online educational resources for estheticians like myself. Their advanced courses and comprehensive protocols have equipped me with the skills and confidence to effectively treat my clients. The support and resources they provide truly empower estheticians to excel in our practices, and I’m deeply grateful and proud to use their products on my clients.
Finally, I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to Gabrielle ElizaBeth of GEMPIRE Hair. She has truly transformed my approach to self-care within my treatments, teaching me how to create an atmosphere where clients feel relaxed and pampered. Her insights into building genuine connections through thoughtful touch are invaluable and something I couldn’t have learned from anyone else. Gabrielle’s expertise has not only elevated my skills but has also enriched the experiences I provide for my clients.
Additionally, I want to acknowledge my supportive community of fellow estheticians and friends who inspire me daily. Their encouragement and shared experiences have been invaluable. I truly believe that my achievements reflect the support I’ve received, and I am grateful for everyone who has contributed to my journey.
