Meet Morgayne Wilson | Professional Tattoo Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgayne Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgayne, what principle do you value most?
Oui, this question will forever and always resonate so differently with folks everywhere. Although, I feel that I can confidently say; there is a group of individuals artists or non that can find relation to what it is that I find to be a high value principle.
Good ole fashioned honesty.
As I’ve shared in previous articles, transparency seems like a high cost luxury in today’s society. Within the direction that social media has persuaded the minds of individuals and the facades of online profiles, what people trust most at the end of the day is honesty.
I’ve seen too much of the industry take advantage of peoples time, resources, and an individual’s vulnerability.
I will always pride myself in the way that; if no one else is giving you the honesty you need within any direction in life, me as your tattoo artist, can at least provide that in a part of your experience.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think any form of art comes with a variety of struggles. By no means is it easy, and I don’t think anything you want to achieve in life should be. Every step we take comes with different scales of hardship. That’s what brings us to success. The concern comes when things start to feel to easy, from there we should evaluate what’s next. Growth is a consist factor for progression in any industry. equipping myself with that mentality has gotten me pretty far, along with the dedication to my craft.
I want to disclose to my readers that everyone’s story includes challenges that look different in comparison. That is a game that can make us reluctant to development within what’s meant for us personally.
I know I’ve struggled with jealously and envy towards a self structured idea of ‘fairness’. When in fact coming to terms with the different struggles required for every individual is what individualizes our unique brand. That brand intern cosmically calls out to the people it subconsciously resonates with.
Pretty powerful stuff when you decide to change your mindset and set your focuses into breaking away from traditional thinking.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What’s really fun about the small town I live and tattoo in is, we’re a pocket city with in about a 40 mile range. There is tons of wonderful things to checkout in between South Haven, MI and Holland MI.
Some of my favorite things include the hiking trails, especially the ones that take you down to the lakeshore. It can be an entire day activity or just an afternoon or morning break in the day.
I have always thought there was something so incredibly special about living on the lakeshore and breathing that air. The forests reflect such a diverse ecosystem of tree varieties life in general. Stumbling upon wildlife is always a chance on any park trail. From unique butterfly spices to unknown bug sightings, to snakes and even deer. It’s always a gift when you’re consumed in the beauty of nature.
The local coffee shops in any of the surrounding towns are always great hidden gems to take up a morning or afternoon. A lot of them source coffee from one local bean roaster in Saugatuck MI! Uncommon Grounds is the roaster.
The Farmhouse Deli of Douglas, MI has got to be by far my most favorited place in all of the area. On my days off, I frequently drive out to stock up on a variety of goodies they provide fresh daily. The people are always so kind and it’s all house made and locally soured. You can’t get more wholesome than that. Just amazing.
There is definitely a list of things I’d never recommend also, HA, but as a local of these neighboring towns, how many times can you do the same thing before it’s not exciting anymore?
South Haven has one of my favorite stores every, and I always call it the rock shop, because I’m always forgetting how to pronounce the actual name of the shop… So many cool things are present in the shop along with them being the record holder of one of the largest amethyst clusters in the state! I never like to admit how much money I’d like to spend at that store, everything is just so darn cool. You’re guaranteed to find a treasure there.
Those have always got to be my top recommendations for the area. I could continue to go on about much more, but this is a great start I’d say.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To narrow it down to one specific person is incredibly challenging for me.
Throughout the different phases of my life I have always had different groups and individuals giving me comfort and support during that part of my journey. Not to say that they haven’t all remained present figures in my life. We all change and outgrow previous inputs.
Aside from my track of growth. I have always been most thankful to the clients I have had along the way of my tattoo journey. They are the people that show me they love my work the most, especially on days when I’m dogging on myself with imposter syndrome. They are the ones that pride themselves to others in wearing a tattoo handcrafted by me. From the very beginning when I was an apprentice and I was shakey line sally, they have still stuck with me because they believed in the status I’d achieve.
That kind of support is worth everything to my career. If I didn’t have the amazing clients I do, I imagine things would be incredibly different for me than they are now.
Also my clients feel that appreciation from me and they want to continue coming back because its comes down to such an equal exchange~
My shoutout goes to the folks that read these artists and silently applaud every level I achieve.
