Meet Nathan Walton | Entertainment Artist – Music Producer – Singer – Instrumentalists – Guitar Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Walton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
This career came to me. I was an avid fan of music as a child and just enjoyed listening to music. I started to sing in the middle school choir and really enjoyed it. I started a band in High School and as they say, the rest was history. after my audition with American Idol and the success that came with it, I made the decision to become a full-time musician and started my own small business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer and music creator. I fell in love with sounds as a kid. every sound is interesting to me. I have been lucky enough and worked my butt off keeping a 8 piece band together of Michigan’s top performers. It has not been easy. I will preach till the cows come home the hardest thing about being a band leader is finding people who are dedicated and have common goals. Playing nice only gets you so far. if you want to be the boss you gotta pay the cost and musicians and creatives understand that tenfold.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well we would definitely spend a night at the Tip Top Deluxe watching a Touring Honky Tonk band. The Atmosphere is just weird at TIpTop and that’s why I love it. We would need to eat at Two Beards, a wonderful gourmet sandwich shop in downtown GR. I would also take them to the lakeshore at least once. Michigan’s lakes shore is a national treasure, with fresh water and no sharks. There are plenty of little bars in Grand Rapids that i would love to share with them. Our Fish ladder is a wonderful place to go for a walk and unwind a bit.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well my first shout-out would be to my choir Director Kris Ryskamp. She is currently a retired Teacher at Byron Center Public Schools and she gave me a lot of great direction when I first started singing. She made singing fun for me and i loved going to class because it was enjoyable to sing and feel like part of a community of people.
Next would be Carlos Seise. He was born to sing and he changed my career as a singer by taking lessons In 1983 after studying with Susan Young at the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico, he made his professional debut singing the tenor role in C.Orff “Carmina Burana”, with the Dominican Republic Symphony.
