We had the good fortune of connecting with Okiymo Manica and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Okiymo, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
That this will help me pay for my Doctorate Degree and I will be able to earn money to be a blessing to my family and community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Limited License Professional Counselor and a School Counselor in a pre-K-8 school setting. I know that music is a great coping skill because it helps me to get through homework and just life. Photography helps me by showing and reminding me how far I have come in life. It has not always been easy but through prayer and my village I am able to push through.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1 Downtown Detroit to the Mix a great place to eat and dance. 2. Royal Oak for dinner at Lecrepe great food and atmosphere.
3. Southfield Brunch D’Bos is amazing for shrimp and grits.
4. CJ Barrymore nothing but fun.
5. Detroit museums
6. Ferndale Bosco’s for the House Music

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will like to shout out Ray Williams and Tia’Von Patton. Ray taught me how to DJ and Tia’Von assisted me with my 360 Photobooth. The booth encouraged me to keep going. My Sorority Sister Michelle Williams & Soror Danita Vaughn of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc has patronized and referred me to others thee most.
