Meet Pamela Honkanen | Food connoisseur and Pamspalate creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Honkanen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pamela, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Honest and positive features. I only post from places that I had a great experience at and keep negativity off of my page. If I don’t have a good experience I simply don’t post about it. I like to promote new businesses focusing on local restaurants. I also feature places I find along my travels.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started posting in 2015 when out with friends for dinner and drinks. At the time I followed a couple of food bloggers and enjoyed seeing the posts and finding out about new places. I figured, hey, I am already out enjoying great places with wonderful food, drink and ambiance, why not share my experiences too. I keep it real and hope that by sharing my experiences, it helps others to discover places they may not have otherwise. I love to focus on promoting local businesses especially those new to the scene.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Right now some of my favorites are:
The Statler French-American Bistro on Park Ave in Detroit for all around great food, drink, and service, you name it. Impeccable dinning experience every time I visit. Special shout out to sommelier Andree who is always personable and knowledgeable.
Keisling Detroit for cocktails – great ambience with an outdoor patio in the warmer months.
Brine Oyster house in Grosse Pointe Park is a great new seafood house. You can’t go wrong here, they have a daily selection of fresh shucked oysters and live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
LeSupreme (Detroit), Bar Pigalle (Detroit), Employee Meal (Birmingham), and Zane (Birmingham) are also some really great dinner options.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
