Meet Patrick Bush | Owner of Patman Droneography

We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Bush and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I strongly believe that what I do is a benefit to the community. I encourage people to look at life through a different perspective. My business has really changed from just taking pictures and videos with a drone. Now I do my very best to spread positivity, beauty, and encouragement through my photography and videography. Of course I still do paid work and promotional gigs flying, but spreading positivity and encouraging people to ‘open their eyes’ has been so amazing. The community that I’ve built on social media (Patman’s Frequent Flyers and First Class Flyers) are some of the best people on the planet. I’ve always been proud of the fact that I’ve built my brand on positivity, it’s not an easy thing to do. Many people believe that Battle Creek is a bad place to be and my mission is to prove that Battle Creek IS Beautiful!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I know it may sound silly, but I think that it is the coolest thing ever when I am recognized in public. Everyone I have met has been so nice and extremely supportive. I wouldn’t say that I’m an extremely successful business in terms of financial gain, but I think that what I do is less about money and more about building community through my work. It hasn’t been easy, and there have been many ‘haters’ along the way… but to be honest those are the people that I am really trying to reach, it gives me an opportunity to let them know all about what there is to do in the community… all you have to do is get out of the house! Of course there has been challenges, I have a full time job outside of Patman, I’ve got two amazing little boys (my co-pilots), and an amazing wife that puts up with all of my shenanigans. There’s not enough time in the day, and it can be difficult to find the ideal work / life balance. I want the world to know that Battle Creek IS Beautiful, Michigan IS Beautiful, Life IS Beautiful! Just get outside, get out of that rut, try something new!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man! This is a tough question. There’s so much to do… I would definitely take them out on the boat to go fishing on Goguac Lake at LEAST one of the days. We could go kayaking down the Battle Creek River. Hang out downtown hit Clara’s on the River, Handmap Brewing, and we would definitely go to Umami Ramen! If there were any events downtown I would take them to that… Kellogg Arena and the Small Business Battle Creek group is always hosting amazing community events with live music and food down at Festival Market Square. I would schedule a tour of the Milton, we could go Golfing or Disk Golfing (I know Vince could show us the best courses!) There is literally so much to do I wouldn’t be able to fit it all in within just one week.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Shoutout goes to the amazing community I’ve built and those generous folks of First Class! It is so encouraging to see all of the discussion on social media and hear the stories about how I’ve changed their mind on Battle Creek or encouraged them to look at life through a different lens. The Frequent Flyers and First Class Flyers quite literally keep Patman in the air.
