We had the good fortune of connecting with Pep (Nachaye) B. (Blanks) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pep (Nachaye), what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks Build Character. Of course we are not always ready for the outcomes of the risks that we take or attempt to take, but usually it is for a good cause. As a new and upcoming entrepreneur, I am realizing that in order to get to my ultimate goal, risks have to be taken. I am a perfectionist so I always want things to be right or setup how it should be, because I simply don’t want to fail. However, failure isn’t an option but it has to happen in order to learn lessons and build wisdom.

I have taken a few risks in my small period of time being a business owner. The biggest risk I took was moving from my home state to a state I knew nothing about. I didn’t have much in my pocket but I gave it all up for a dream. I resided in Dallas, TX for a 1 year and 7 months. In that time I was able to achieve my ultimate goal of Going to Esthetics School and becoming a Licensed Beauty Professional.

I graduated from one of the most prestigious beauty schools in the nation as well as Dallas. Aveda Institute of Arts & Sciences Esthetics Program was 6 – 8 months. I finished in 6 months and prior to coming to texas I was in cosmetology school at P&A Beauty Scholars in Detroit, MI my hometown. I became licensed shortly after graduating from Aveda Of Dallas.

I now see that I can do anything I set my mind to do. This helped me to grow mentally, physically and emotionally. The risks are important and must be done in order to see the progress in your journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My drive sets me apart from others. I have a drive to help and lead. I enjoy having the spirit to do the best I can for people and change the way they feel about themselves. I am where I am because I am a free spirited being. I appreciate the crafts and goals of others and I feel that growth is the most beautiful thing in the world and they appreciate me for that. All of the challenges I face builds my character for the next portion of my journey. I truly am learning to find the positives in any negative because that creates balance. In order to have success you must fail at something because this gives you momentum. My brand is full of life which helps my clients to feel complete and wholesome. I wholeheartedly give my all when servicing my clients because I feel they deserve the best. Starting out as a home-based business is hard but I am proud of the outcome of my journey. My clients are appreciative of my work which makes it easy for me to grow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Scenery is everything. I appreciate Downtown Detroit because of the culture and the way of life that you have a chance to see. I would take them downtown to eat at Pizza Papalis because it has a lot of different flavors and food to offer. I would take them out to Belle Isle to enjoy the beach and the scenery it has to offer.

There are so many places and things we could do while visiting but I would want them to become comfortable with the environment and what it has to offer. I love to travel and I think it’s important to know the culture behind a City.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many angels that the universe provided for me and my daughter. I want to thank the Universe and God first for always pushing me through my challenges. The things I thought I couldn’t get through, I made it through. I feel like without God I have nothing.

My family is another part of my journey that I would like to thank. My Godmama Keke who adopted me after I lost my mother. She gave me a lot of strength and motivates me daily. My nana/aunt Orlanda who always loved me from the beginning. She also adopted me and gave me hope that I can live my life without struggling and feeling defeated. She has given me alot of her love in many ways and I am truly grateful for her. Lastly I would like to say my Brother & my daughter who are my favorite people in the whole wide world. They make what I do worth the challenges. They give me hope that I can make it one day and I can be the leader I want to be for them. I appreciate the love they give me daily.
