We had the good fortune of connecting with RoseMarie Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RoseMarie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always wanted to have something to do with the fashion industry, being a fashion designer wasn’t what I expected. I love photography and modeling and I love taking photos. I wanted to model as well, it’s fun. You can be someone else for a minute or be yourself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hey!! I’m RoseMarie Lewis, Owner of Yubehandmade and Yube Yarn Collection. I’m a Fiber Artist/Crochet Fashion Designer, wife, and mother of six. My line is full of Sexy Eye catching Swim and resort wear.
Pulling from my nearly 24 years of design experience as a freehand crochet designer, I’ve been featured in ELLE Magazine, Fashion Style weekly and many more.
In 2022, I presented Yubehandmade during Miami Swim Week and invited to Paris Fashion Week as one of the Designers to watch.
In June, I was a featured designers during Michigan Fashion Week and Miami Swim Week in July 2023. Yubehandmade as a highly acclaimed brand that upholds its status in the crochet community. Some looks are sexy and form fitting, as well as slightly loose with a comfortable fit. It would be a great idea to wear Yubehandmade to the pool. We add a fun splash to your summer wardrobe that can be enjoyed for years to come.

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I don’t limit myself when it comes to crochet. I don’t follow anyone else’s pattern it’s all me. I create my own and I’m a free hand crochet designer.

I’m really proud of my work, seeing the finished product is so good. I’m really excited about being nominated for Favorite Designer of the Year and Favorite Emerging Designer for The Detroit Fashion choice Awards. It’s a big deal for me to be recognized for doing something I love so much and something I e been working so hard on for years.

I got where I am professionally by staying consistent and being true to my brand. No it wasn’t easy at all. It’s been times when I think about stopping, I did for a few years so I can give my children all my time. Getting back to crochet helped me get back to myself.

A big lesson I’ve learned from being a fashion designer is that I have to care and love and enjoy what I do. Take time for myself and actually create for myself as well. I want the world to know that this is hard work. Slow fashion is very important, and can be enjoyed for years.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First off I would tell them they have to go to a Detroit hair stylist like Angel Wilson or Avyonne Antonia. Than get make up by Talya Asford before they go anywhere to hit the town! Maybe pick up some Yubehandmade pants as well. Then go downtown and enjoy the night life, get dinner and desert, I recommend cookies from Snooky Cookies. I like going downtown so check out the Detroit Holiday Market and pick up a charcuterie or two from Janna Kay Charcuterie. Go check out Hot Commodity Eyewear and pick up some candles from Toni’s Collection. It’s so much to live about detroit. It’s so many restaurants for whatever you like.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my family. My husband, my kids Yusuf, Yohan, Yasir, Yuri, York and Yoshi. Yes I have six children. I’ll also like to dedicate this to my niece Avyonne that supports almost every show I do, I really appreciate you. And my mom, sisters and my other nieces and nephews, all my family that always share my post and all my customers!! Thank you!! I have such a big family so if you’re my family I dedicate this to you.
