Meet Sahib Aliyev | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sahib Aliyev and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sahib, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been fascinated by the power of visual storytelling. Photography allows me to capture emotions, moments, and perspectives that words often fail to express. It’s not just about taking pictures; it’s about creating a narrative, evoking feelings, and preserving memories. Every shot I take is a reflection of how I see the world – sometimes raw, sometimes dreamy, but always authentic. Choosing this path wasn’t just a career decision; it was a natural extension of who I am. I believe that art has the ability to connect people, and through my photography, I hope to inspire and move others.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Photography, for me, is more than just capturing images-it’s about telling stories, evoking emotions, and freezing moments in time that might otherwise be forgotten. What sets my work apart is my ability to find beauty in the details, the rawness of emotions, and the uniqueness of each subject I photograph. I strive to create images that feel authentic, that connect with people on a deeper level, and that tell a story without the need for words.
Getting to where I am today professionally was not easy. There were moments of self-doubt, creative blocks, and challenges in establishing myself in a highly competitive industry. I had to push myself beyond my comfort zone, constantly learn, experiment, and refine my craft. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that growth comes from persistence-staying consistent, being open to feedback, and never losing the passion that drives me.
One thing I want the world to know about my photography is that it’s personal. Every shot reflects how I see the world-sometimes raw, sometimes cinematic, but always with emotion and intent. My goal is to create work that resonates with people, that makes them feel something, and that leaves a lasting impression. Photography isn’t just my career-it’s my way of seeing, feeling, and sharing the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d make sure they had an unforgettable experience filled with culture, food, and adventure.
We’d start the trip with a relaxed morning at a cozy café, enjoying fresh pastries and strong coffee while soaking in the local atmosphere. From there, we’d take a walking tour through the old city, exploring its historic streets, hidden courtyards, and iconic landmarks. The afternoon would be spent wandering through unique local shops and markets, and as the sun sets, we’d head to the waterfront to take in the view before having dinner at a restaurant known for its traditional cuisine.
To dive into the arts and culture scene, we’d visit a contemporary art museum or a photography exhibition, taking time to appreciate creative expressions from both local and international artists. The day would continue with a stop at a historic theater or music venue, catching a live performance or an independent film screening. A late-night visit to a rooftop bar or a jazz club would wrap up the evening, offering a chance to unwind with good music and conversation.
Food is an essential part of the experience, so each day would include a mix of dining at well-known restaurants, exploring street food, and even visiting a hidden gem or two that only locals know about. From rich, flavorful traditional dishes to modern fusion cuisine, I’d make sure my friend tasted the best of what the city has to offer.
For a bit of adventure, we’d take a short trip outside the city to explore nature-maybe hiking up a scenic trail, visiting a beautiful lake, or even trying a unique outdoor activity like horseback riding or paragliding. If they love history, we’d stop by ancient ruins or a castle, uncovering fascinating stories from the past.
The evenings would be all about relaxing and socializing. Whether it’s a lively night out with great music and drinks, a quiet dinner with deep conversations, or simply enjoying the city lights from a scenic viewpoint, every night would have a different vibe.
By the end of the week, my friend wouldn’t just see the city-I’d make sure they felt its soul, experienced its rhythm, and left with memories they’d never forget.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I haven’t had a mentor in the traditional sense, but my journey has been shaped by the people around me – my family, friends, and the creative community I’ve been a part of. Their support, honest feedback, and encouragement have pushed me to keep improving and believing in myself. I’ve also learned a lot through experience, trial and error, and by observing and studying the work of great photographers and artists. Books, films, and even everyday moments have played a big role in shaping my perspective. So while I didn’t have a single mentor, I’d say life itself and the people I’ve met along the way have been my greatest teachers.
