Meet Salena Taylor | Founder and Executive Director of Partial to Girls

We had the good fortune of connecting with Salena Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Salena, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor of the work done in Partial to Girls is the Women Take Action Team. Everyday women from all types of backgrounds and color come together to help me to serve the most vulnerable populations in our city. We’re successful with this because we stick together and keep the needs of others first.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started Partial to Girls to help families who struggle with financial poverty. Those with food and housing insecurities. Coming from a tumultuous background myself, I was faced with many challenges with my own family connected to poverty and one of the biggest lessons I learned along the way was when you’re in trouble financially you must ask for help, You must continue to work hard and never give up on making yourself a better person for your family and surrounding neighborhood.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re ever in the Jackson, Michigan area a great place to check out would be our downtown area. There’s a variety of amazing food, activities and nightlife. A couple of my favorite places to visit downtown is Veritas and Rj’s Ice Cream shop. Both have amazing staff and food. We have a place called Experience Jackson and ironically they’re office is located right downtown. You can look them up or stop in there during regular business hours and they have information and full details of all events and upcoming events in our area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
