Meet Sarah Michals | Photographer & Web Designer/Developer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Michals and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
Professionally, my long-term goal is to earn a comfortable and sustainable income that allows me to pursue my love of the outdoors and adventure through photography, working with clients who align with goals, interests and values.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Since May 2021 I have been a full-time freelancer, focusing my services on photography and digital marketing for small and mid-side businesses in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
I think the hardest part of being an entrepreneur is to make time to continually work on your business. There are days it feels overwhelming and exhausting, but you just have to keep going. As basic as it sounds, setting realistic goals for growing my business has been the biggest motivator for me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I just moved full time to Marinette County, so I would recommend starting the day with a short drive into Michigan for coffee and a breakfast sandwich at Contrast Coffee in Iron Mountain. Then, I go fill up my hiking water bottle at the Norway Spring and then stop in for snacks at True North Outpost on the way to hike at Piers Gorge. From there, I would continue the adventure south back into Wisconsin to explore as many of the Marinette County waterfalls – especially Smalley Falls, Long Slide Falls, Twelve Foot Falls, Dave’s Falls and Horseshoe Falls to name a few. I’d make a stop at C&R Bar & Grill in Aurora for one of the best burger’s around.
Later in the evening for dinner, I’d probably go back to Michigan for the Friday Fish Fry at Pine Mountain or pizza at Blackstone Pizza Company and then end the day with a brief hike up to Millie Hill Scenic Lookout.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dear friend, Mary Lynn Kelly at Quantum Wellness US was one of my first clients who truly offered me the kindness and confidence I needed to push me beyond my safety net. Her encouragement to continually put myself out there and ask for the opportunities I want to come into my life has forever changed my life.
