We had the good fortune of connecting with Satori Shakoor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Satori, what do you want your legacy to be?
My legacy is that human beings practice and develop their super power, which is storytelling. When people remember me, I want them to remember that they were deeply heard by someone with awe, acceptance, respect and honor for them. And, that the standing ovation they receive for sharing their story with others is a fully completed circle of love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art? I’m a storyteller. What sets me apart from others you ask? I’m not interested in being “set apart.” I’m interested in connecting with other people who are creative, love ideas and are compelled to bring what doesn’t exist. yet, into world. I’m most proud that I have evolved from living out of predictable answers. It excites me to pose questions so delicious I use my life to explore them, whether I’m afraid or not.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
They would stay with me or I would book them a room at Inn on Ferry Street. We would visit the Blackout Walls an outside art gallery of murals. We would catch a matinee at Detroit Repertory Theatre and Detroit Public Theatre. Go to Bert’s or Bakers Keyboard Lounge to hear some good old Detroit jazz and blues, We would take in a concert at The Sound Stage, A few nights of my favorite restaurants Babo, Babao Fare, Oyaki Sushi, Inyo Restaurant. Stay at home enjoy a great meal and relaxing conversation. I would invite a few good friends over to meet my visiting friend and we all enjoy ourselves. Go to Belle Isle drive around the Island, drive over to Windsor, Ontario go to an Italian restaurant, Perhaps take a day trip to Toronto to catch a matinee of a great show, Drive to Stratford if it’s during their theatre season. Go see some real good comedy. Find some trunk sales, shop local and independent designers and artists.
