We had the good fortune of connecting with Shania Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shania, how do you think about risk?
Since college I’ve always said ” Do it Scared Anyway.” I’ve never done what was comfortable. When I’m uncomfortable but sure of my decision then I take the leap. This mindset and my faith in God to lead me, is why I’ve had so many successes.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I started my career as a videographer right out of college and my biggest challenge was dealing with imposter syndrome. I was blessed with opportunities to shoot for major brands and travel the world at a young age. Not truly knowing who you are and being elevated in your career so quickly, can be scary. I used to get so nervous when people would talk so highly of my skill set to others. I feared the picture that they painted wasn’t one I could live up to. I use to think “it had to just be luck for why I was doing so well, right?” It honestly took years to finally see what everyone else could see in me.

Another challenge was the fear of success. It might sound weird but the thought of becoming so successful and dealing with the pressures of having to sustain it, sometimes caused me not to try or want to make myself known.

Throughout my journey I’ve learned to always come to the table as if you belong no matter how you see yourself. Allow the love for what you do, to talk for you. It’s hard to fake passion. It will come out in your work, so as long as you are your authentic self, the right people will appreciate it and opportunities will flow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m an outdoors girl so I loved to hang at Reeds Lake in the summer. Provin Trails was one of my go to places for photoshoots. If you want a great açaí bowl, you have to go to Fruition. The art/creative scene has to be one of my favorite things about the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would shoutout my parents. I was raised without limits. Never once did my parents discourage me from pursuing whatever dream I had at the time. I have always been creative. One moment I was drawing, the next I was writing short stories, and then I was making documentaries. With each new interest, I’ve always had their support. I grew up extremely independent, which I can give some credit to why it’s easy for me to take risks. Even though 9 to 5’s were all my parents were familiar with, they never discouraged me from being an entrepreneur. They always encouraged me to think bigger. I’m grateful to have their support even now as an adult.
