We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawna Mang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted the flexibility of being my own boss. I definitely work more and harder than I did than when I worked for someone else, but it doesn’t feel like that. Working hard for yourself and doing something you love isn’t the same kind of hard as working for someone else doing something you don’t enjoy. It was a complete leap of faith into my capabilities.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’d like to think that I offer a skill set that has been accumulated over a lifetime that sets me apart from others. I can see how’s life’s path has brought me into this business. It hasn’t not always been easy, but having the mindset of a lifetime learner has given me the confidence to know I have the capability and capacity to learn what I need to know to be successful. This applies in all aspects of my business. From creation to bookkeeping.

This business stems from a love of florals and a true belief in the commitment of marriage. Preserving a wedding bouquet serves as a connection to the commitment, love and support that was received on that wedding day. My hope is that as a couple may hit a rough patch, as most do, they would see their preservation and be reminded of all the love they have for one another despite the curve balls life throws at us and that maybe they would put their arrows down for an olive branch.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Northern Michigan offers a plethora of charming places and so many things to do and see. Walking around in downtown Petoskey, crossing the skybride at Boyne Mountain, going for a hike on one of the many nature preserves, taking a drive through the tunnel of trees, and eating at a number of the amazing restaurants.

I feel lucky to living in such a beautiful place where many use up their precious vacation time to come to.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been fortunate to have so much encouragement and support. Some of it is just a gift in life and others, I have saught out.

First would be God. He has put it in me to be a maker, a creator, and an artist.

Then, would be my husband. He has always been encouraging of my ideas and has been along side me since day 1. That has really meant the world.

Next, I am fortunate to have an amazing group of women that span the scope of family, friends, and colleagues that have lifted me up, encouraged, advised, and supported me.

And the last mention would be my mentor Courtney Morales. She has held my hand along in building this business while being a sounding board and has turned into an amazing friend.
