We had the good fortune of connecting with Si’ Neka Demery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Si’ Neka, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Akenis llc helps the community and world by providing a safe space for women battling chronic illnesses such as Sickle Cell Anemia, Endometriosis, Lupus, PCOS and Mental Health through Holistic products, resources, & services.

We educate and support women who are searching for a healthy & natural lifestyle.

We launched our Akenis Cares program in 2022 which provides free hygiene and “positive vibes” packs free, to women through out the community. If you come across myself or a team member than generally, you’ve snagged one of our packs! We just hand them out at random!

I’ve receive so many compliments about how they have lifted someone’s spirits, when they were experiencing a bad day or difficult time in their life.

Empathy and compassion are two of the most powerful and yet over looked characteristics within each of us.

Akenis is showing everyone that it’s actually cool to be a genuinely good person and want to help others!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia at birth! Through my adolescence leading into early adult hood, I was advised to have any children. Child labor is one of the leading causes of death for an individual living with Sickle Cell Anemia.

I made the choice that I would not allow someone or a disease to dictate what God had dated for myself.

I would have children and they would thrive!

I always wanted my own safe space to feel empowered living with this disease and I also wanted the same for my daughters.

That’s when the idea of launching a brand for everyone who deals with the same trials and tribulations as us!

And Akenis llc is born!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely have them check out the water front in Bay City, Mi. They have been working diligently to renovate the area and it is absolutely beautiful! There are cute boutiques, fine dining, and always some sort of concert or festival happening!

Wouldn’t allow them to leave out without checking out the Old Towne Saginaw, Mi!

There’s a strip of super cool distilleries, yoga shop, salons and spas, tattoo shops with highly talented artists for those who love a little ink, and finally grab some food at the local diners!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my beautiful daughters Cylah & Kaleah!

They are the reason that I work so hard to bring light back to the world! They deserve a life with endless possibilities, without feeling restricted because of their Sickle Cell.
