Meet Stephen Weinmann | Photographer for Weinmann’s Photography

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen Weinmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephen, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I have been doing photography for over 8 years now. I started this business in college, doing graduation photoshoots and couple photoshoots and it has been up and down over the years. Throughout grad school, the photography had to take a back seat. Once I graduated and started my full time career, I was able to start diving back into it. But it was not until the past two years that my photography business has really found its shape.
Not only am I firm in my career outside of photography, it allows me the time to connect with clients, edit photos and create a brand I am proud of. My fiancee has been my biggest supporter and has helped shaped the direction of this business as well. Knowing that I can go out for a few hours each weekend and do a photoshoot has been huge. She has been so understanding and supportive, and I do not think I would have the success I have now without her.
Balance is about finding the time. It can be stressful at times but I love being behind that camera and capturing all these amazing moments for my clients.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My passion for photography started with film cameras in college. Learning how to capture the perfect shot because you only had so much film to use really taught the importance of the basics. Then learning how to develop it in a dark room and the time and energy that went into that was unmatched. It was my favorite class in college. From there, my passion grew as I connected with my grandfather who was also a photographer and had traveled the world doing it. He is my harshest critic but I know I got a good photo when he compliments it. He has pushed me every step of the way to improve my skills and try new things.
Finding my passions were hard, I tried everything with photography but I have now settled on the big three as I call them, engagements, families and sports. I love capturing the love with engagement and family photoshoots and I love capturing the action of sports. Being able to do both has been a wonderful blessing in my life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my area, I would love to take them to downtown Northville. There are a bunch of great local shops and restaurants in the area that we can go to. There are also a lot of great hiking trails so I know we would a little of that as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my Fiancee Emma for all the support she has given me, helping me rebrand my business and talking through ideas with me. I could not do this without her.
