Meet Tiera Henderson | Entrepreneur/Mental Health Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiera Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiera, how does your business help the community?
My business helps the community through inspirational literature that bridges the gap between depression, anxiety and other mental illness and mental stability. We have donated hundreds of journals to women’s shelters in our community to offer as a beacon of light and hope in dire circumstances. Everyone faces times in life where things are complex, hard or tough to deal with or get through and unfortunately it’s easy to lose hope and give up when your back is severely pressed against the wall. Knowing how to get through those tough times is what Watered Flowers specializes in through journaling, community inspirational events and mentorship. We pride ourselves on being the one stop shop for all mental health needs from children to adults. Our service to our community is top priority because if we can thrive as individuals we can change the world.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets me apart from others is the uniqueness I bring to curing mental health issues. Most of these issues I’ve dealt with myself so I am able to relate and inspire. My products are handmade, from the design, to the finished product to the packaging. I think what makes me most excited and proud is that this started from a low place I was in mentally and it has turned into my outlet and career. I can say I didn’t start off with a lot. I had no idea how to make a journal. I would spend time on YouTube and google and it was a lot of trial and error, I didn’t start with much money either but I took what I had and went for it and I am so proud that I did. It wasn’t easy but well worth it because I kept my eyes on the prize. Every time a customer would leave a review or share their story with me on how my journals helped them overcome their own issues, it inspired me to keep going inspite of not having enough, or mentorship. I’ve just been swinging in the dark when running my company but every swing has gotten me steps further to where I want to be. I want to see people thriving in every way but our minds control how we thrive and with the proper tools we can overcome anything and Watered Flowers has those tools. It is a tool.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Detroit so we would definitely hang out Downtown and enjoy some shopping along the strip. I would also take them to one of my favorite restaurants which is Milestone grille, they serve nice portion sized food at reasonable prices and not to mention, it’s good. Coney Island too, Detroit is known to have the best Coney Island restaurants hands down. We’d probably do a little of painting with a twist to have fun, laugh but also be relaxed at the same time. I still like to skate so maybe Northland roller rink would be something we would do to end their trip.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my children who work alongside with me in my efforts in creating a positive shift in mental health in our communities and world. They have packaged orders with me, attended pop-ups with me, and critiqued my products when I’ve needed a second opinion. Not to mention, they have also been my camera men for photo shoots.
