We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Travis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I believe showing my kids to always work on themselves and put themselves first is the best thing I can teach them. They cannot be there for anyone and fully care for others until they can do so themselves. I tech this daily through all aspects of life. Food is fuel for the body, exercise is energy and the sun is happiness.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is in the fitness industry. I started my own app and in person training so I could help other find themselves. Just as I did through hard work, focusing on you and pushing past limits. I am dedicated to all of my clients and want to see each and every one of them thrive. My goal at the end of the day is to teach them what they are capable of. The fitness industry is not one size fits all so I’m always looking for new ways to help clients, each client is different so often I have to pivot and change the plan according to the client. That’s what makes my job fun though!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depends on the time of year but summertime and even fall we’d go to northern Michigan. Downtown traverse city, walk enjoy the view of all the natural beautiful waters, stop and have dinner at firefly.

Maybe go to torch lake sand bar on a boat and relax all day!

Detroit is also a super fun popping area to walk and wander. Find new things to do, new restaurants to see and the bubble in downtown Detroit is unmatched!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family for always supporting me mainly my mom. She never doubted any of my goals, she pushed towards them more and more every day. She taught me to never give up, never settle and never make an excuse. If you want something you and only you can out in the work to get you there, I will pass this to my kids and I will continue to live my life this way in her memory. I WILL make her proud.

Secondly, the book Relentless by Tim Grover. I don’t read,my mind moves too fast typically to focus on a book but this book I have read more times than I can count and I will forever read this book. Highly recommend.
