Meet Yvonne Warmack | Business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvonne Warmack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yvonne, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe risk taking is imperative in life and in business. You have to be willing to take risks no matter the outcome. I think that risks can be fearful and exciting at the same time. You’re nervous at first because you don’t know what the outcome will be but, I think whether the impact is negative or positive you will learn a valuable lesson from the risks you take. For example, when I began J’aime la mode boutique I took a risk in investing in my business. It did not pay off in the beginning and sometimes I do not always reach my sales goal but, the more time I invest into my business the greater the outcome will be.

What should our readers know about your business?
J’aime la mode boutique is a black owned and women owned business. What sets my business apart from others is that I provide unique sunglasses and accessories for an affordable price. The issue I had before I created my business was I could never find affordable accessories in styles, with great quality, and that shipped fast. My social media for my business provides an eccentric atmosphere where posts range from mental health awareness, self-care, and self-love.
I began my business in 2018 and it has come a long way since then. However, I am nowhere near where I want to be. My journey to where I am now was not easy. In addition to me being a business owner, I am a senior majoring in Biology pre-med student at Xavier University of Louisiana. Majority of my time goes towards school work. Many of my struggles included managing a business and college life simultaneously. My major is rigorous and balancing both was a juggle. I’ve dealt with anxiety and stress that has caused me to close my business for months in the past. But, I always got back up and rebooted my website.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way are time management and meditation. I want people to see my story and know that they can do it too. Nothing comes easy in life, if you want something you have to work for it. What matters is if you continue to keep pushing and further your chances to become greater. I am thankful for the challenges that I had to overcome. Without those challenges, I would not have had the opportunity to learn from them. I embrace every obstacle as a lesson.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have a few favorite spots in Detroit. If one of my friends came to visit I would take them to lunch at La Lanterna on Giswold St., dinner at Mad nice and lastly, I would stop at Astoria in Greek town for a dessert. I would also, do a picnic at belle isle during the day or a trip to the (DIA) Detroit Institute of Arts. For night life activities I would stop by Deluxx Fluxx, 3fifty terrace, or Delmar.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom. When I was younger, she always bought me jewelry kits. She ignited my creativity as a child and the rest is history. Along with the overwhelming support from my mom and my family.
