There are many moments in my studio practice that I had to make this decision. I have had to choose between weaving multiple content together or focusing on specific content in an art piece. This decision to draw those connections between content and material is what keeps me going in my studio practice. This question comes up a lot when I am experimenting with materials in my studio as well. One instance that I had to give up on the material was when I worked with resin. I knew I had to give up after it cost me studio time and space due to faulty default equipment; plus, this was my first time working with resin. I learned my lesson to experiment small before expanding an experimental project. Read more>>
This is really a 2 part answer. Determination and family. I’ve always been a person that when I put my mind to do something I never give up no matter how hard it can get. I could not do this business without the help and support of my family. No matter what I need or when I need it I can count on my husband and 2 sons to help. I’m very grateful and blessed. Cartoons, video games, mangas and anime make me so happy! It’s been so impressionable on me my entire life. The art behind it all, I wanted to do that too. I’ve always had a pretty overactive imagination, so creating different worlds and different characters and using those things to bring other people joy has been all I’ve ever wanted to do. I pursued an artistic career because I couldn’t see myself being happy doing anything else. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend college and earn a degree, I’ve worked lots of different jobs since I was a teenager, and nothing has given me the sense of purpose and fulfillment that writing and performing music has given me. It’s been difficult at times, justifying the hours and energy put into an endeavor that usually does not pay a lot up when you start out. But when I think of all of the jobs I’ve had, and all of the jobs I could have, I know that I’m pursuing the one that will make me happiest. Read more>>
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had fascinations for many things including animals and the world around us and I wanted to express it in the form of art. As I grew, my artistic skills improved, notably in high school, and as I went through college, I learned many more techniques and mediums to add to my skillset. Not long after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in fine arts, I entered the world of art sales and since then, many more people have become familiar with my talent. I wanted to share my gift and express my creativity with the rest of the world. Read more>>
The balance between work and personal life has evolved over time due to various factors such as technology advancements, changes in norms, and shifting expectations in the industry. Prioritizing flexibility and freedom within my schedules, pursuing personal interests so that I won’t lose my mind alongside my business responsibilities. Setting boundaries and not feeling guilty when taking time away from my business for self-care. A balanced lifestyle requires self-awareness, effective time management, and clear communication with clients about expectations and boundaries. Being able to schedule events and meetings around my personal and family needs. Taking full advantage of the use of technology to answer FAQs and accept appointments on my behalf. Read more>>
It’s definitely a difficult line to walk. I have to balance my full-time job, my small business, and spending time with my fiance, our animals, and friends/family. The first year wasn’t too bad as I was just dipping my toe in to test the waters a bit. The 2nd year (last year) was a little harder, trying to find time to make sure I had my products prepared, finding time to replenish my stock, and being able to actually relax and take time for myself. Overall, I think I struck a pretty fair balance between everything. Communicating to my partner and being understanding of her needs also made a big difference in overall happiness and satisfaction.
