We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Cummings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria, how do you think about risk?
As an astrology enthusiast, it’s funny how being a Capricorn comes with the reputation of being risk-averse. In my personal experience, I have found that taking risks has played a significant role in both my life and career. While it is true that I approach risks with careful consideration, weighing the pros and cons, I truly believe that calculated risks have been instrumental in my successes. By stepping out of my comfort zone, embracing new opportunities, and pushing boundaries, I have been able to grow, learn valuable lessons, and really discover untapped potential within myself. Taking risks has allowed me to explore new areas of business, challenge conventional thinking, and seize opportunities that have ultimately propelled me forward on my journey of personal and professional growth. When I started my recruitment firm, Innovative Alignments, in 2022, I had no idea what I was doing. What I did know is that if I dedicated myself to learning as much as I could about recruiting and put in the work, I could achieve success. This is just one example of how taking calculated risks and venturing into the unknown has proven beneficial in my life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I founded a recruitment firm, Innovative Alignments, with the goal of leveraging my background in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to ensure that individuals are matched with jobs that align with their skills, goals, desired outcomes and vice versa. By utilizing ABA techniques, such as behavioral interviewing, we are able to assess and match candidates based on their unique skills, goals, and motivations, ultimately ensuring a better fit between candidates and employers. This is one aspect that sets us apart from many other recruitment companies. Also, as a smaller firm, we have the advantage of building closer connections with our clients and candidates.

We’ve all heard friends and family complain about hating their jobs, but I believe that work doesn’t have to be a source of misery. Just like in a relationship, when your values and passions align with your work, it can be fulfilling and rewarding. Each day, we strive to create those meaningful connections between candidates and employers, so that both parties can thrive and find fulfillment in their professional lives.

Building a successful business has definitely not been without its challenges. Like all new businesses, we’ve faced obstacles along the way, but I believe that every challenge is an opportunity for growth. By staying adaptable, embracing change, and continuously learning, we have been able to weather these challenges and evolve as a company.

What we want people to know about Innovative Alignments is that we are more than just a recruitment firm – we are a strategic partner, dedicated to helping companies find the right people to drive their success. It’s not all about a check. We really are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of candidates and the organizations we serve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always take people to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) because it’s one of my favorite places in the city. For great music, I take them to Spot Lite because it always has a great vibe and the drinks are excellent. Garden Bowl is another place that I would take someone who is visiting because it ticks so many boxes. And honestly, Detroit has so many new bars and restaurants popping up all the time that it can be hard to keep up. Some of my favorites are London Chop House, especially when they have live Jazz. Grey Ghost is a restaurant that consistently offers top-tier food, and I really enjoy the lounge Soul on Ice.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout would have to go to my family, especially my husband and my sister. They are the closest people to me and are my sounding boards, advisors, and support system. Their love, encouragement, and support have played a significant role in shaping who I am today. I can say that they truly believe in me and are constantly pushing me toward my fullest potential. Their presence in my life has been invaluable, and I credit a large part of my success to their efforts. I’m beyond lucky to have such an amazing and supportive family, and I dedicate this shoutout to them for always being there for me, for sure.
