We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Lipsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks can be subjective and objective. They have complexity and it’s important to have discernment when making decisions.

Risks have played a huge role in my life and in my career. I don’t live like many people I know, I do a lot of things many people would not take the risk to do but rewards can be high! Starting my own business and choosing to be in a creative field was a risk all of its own.
I believe you have to take chances in life to get to live a dream and it can all be worth it with the right mindset and attitude!

I also believe it is really important to weigh your options and view possible outcomes to whether a risk is worth the potential reward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional makeup artist coming from a professional model background. Beauty comes to me naturally in an art form.

I feel like what sets me apart is my intuition for what my client is looking for. Whether it’s the photographer, designer, individual clientele or something I’m creating on my own.

I’ve gotten to where I am professionally today is with consistency and determination. Showcasing my work, taking risks on sometimes low or non paying jobs that left me with experience points that led me to have an advantage over many challenges that have come my way… allowing me to work higher paid jobs with confidence.

No it hasn’t been easy, there have been challenges with clients, contracts, new jobs that presented things I have never dealt with before.
I’ve overcome them by trial and error, I’ve made my fair share of mistakes but I have learned after each one. Never being afraid to try again, nor give up.

Lessons I have learned is to stay true to who you are. Continue to grow and learn who you are. Be kind to people, but know where to put your boundaries.

I want the world to know that we that work in the beauty industry are people too. We aren’t magicians, but we will do what we can to meet the desires you are asking for.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God really gave me this opportunity to become a professional makeup artist when my prior career ran its course. I had no idea what I was going to do and he led me all the way to where I am now. Nothing has been done in vain or be left unused. I’m in awe sometimes how it all has come together… Of course not short of its challenges.

My husband has been the most consistent in support, even before I ventured into this career.
He’s proud of the work I have put in regardless of it’s working at a Sephora store or working NYFW for one of the worlds greatest designers.

I also have an OG makeup mentor I met 5 years ago that has encouraged me and offered me advice and opportunities that I know I could not have gained on my own.

I have my RoseHand team here in Grand Rapids that shows me my efforts in the beauty community are not unnoticed! They keep me going when the stress of the industry can wear me down, they remind me I don’t do what I do for just me.
